Before ESPN became a sports powerhouse, it was just an idea.
Legendary sportscaster Chris Berman ’73 was there at the beginning, and now he’s featured in Sports Heaven: The Birth of ESPN | The Untold Story of How ESPN Was Born, airing April 6 at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN.
For more than 45 years, Chris has helped shape the network and the way fans experience sports. A proud Hackley alumnus, he has returned to campus over the years to speak with students, served as a Hackley commencement speaker, and shared stories from his remarkable career, which started at Hackley’s WHTR Hilltop Radio. #HackleyAlumni #HackleySchool

Today we celebrate the past and present women of Hackley — students, faculty, coaches and parents — who help shape the spirit of the Hilltop every day. We also honor the woman who started it all, Frances Hackley, founder of our beloved Hilltop, whose vision continues to inspire generations of the Hackley community. Happy International Women’s Day to the incredible women of Hackley — past, present and future. 🖤🩶 🐝

At the end of February, Hudson Scholars hosted their second annual City Nights, Hudson Lights event in NYC. Organized by a dedicated team of young Hackley alumni, the evening brought young alumni together for a night of connection, fun and celebration of Hudson Scholars. Nearly 40 Hackley alums attended, along with several Hackley faculty members, making for a lively and memorable night filled with laughs, Hilltop nostalgia and more than $5,000 raised for Hudson Scholars. A huge thank you to everyone who attended and supported the program, and especially to our Hudson Scholars Young Alumni Committee for making it all happen. We are already looking forward to next year! #HackleyAlumni #hudsonscholars
🌴 We brought the Hilltop to Los Angeles. Hornets from the Classes of 2025 to 1973 came together in LA to reconnect with friends, catch up on Hackley news and meet fellow alumni. It was fun to see Hornets from across the decades sharing their Hackley experiences and celebrating our shared Hackley ties.
Thanks to everyone who joined us, we loved seeing you. More cities, more alumni, more Hilltop moments ahead.

Dick Hodgson ’51 and Cynthia Eagle’s story began on the Hilltop. Hodge was captain of the football team, and Cynthia, a Hackley cheerleader who attended Masters, cheered from the sidelines. They were high school sweethearts whose paths eventually diverged in college, and both went on to marry and build lives of their own. But the Hilltop had other plans. At the Hackley 1950 Football Reunion in 1983, they reconnected. The spark was still there. Hodge and Cynthia married in 1988 and spent the rest of their lives together. Some love stories truly begin on the Hilltop. 💛🖤 Happy Valentine’s Day❤️
