APPLICATIONS FOR NORTHERN IRELAND’S LARGEST HACKATHON ARE NOW OPEN ❗❗❗ We’re officially launching HackBelfast, Northern Ireland’s largest student-led hackathon - bringing together 175+ students from universities across Ireland for a high-energy 24-hour innovation sprint to tackle real-world challenges, held overnight on 25-26th April at Queen’s University Belfast. Our mission is to create a platform for Northern Ireland’s top student talent to develop impactful solutions, connect with industry professionals, and strengthen the local tech ecosystem. Through cross-university collaboration, top-tier partner involvement, and the solutions built over the weekend, we’re aiming to create real momentum for Belfast as a hub for technology, innovation, and next-generation talent. 💸 : £5,000+ prize pool We have 3 tracks: Builder For technical teams building software-first products with code. Teams are expected to design a working MVP, demonstrate technical depth through architecture, execution, and product thinking. Strong submissions combine solid engineering with clear user value and real-world potential. Non-Builder For participants with limited coding experience who still want to build and ship strong solutions. Teams are given AI tools like Lovable to prototype quickly, validate ideas, and present a functional product. Judging focuses on problem clarity, creativity, usability, and practical impact. Finance A quant-style model and portfolio engineering challenge. Submissions will be tested on a hidden out-of-sample period, with judging based on both quantitative performance and the strength of the team’s analysis, rationale, and communication.
