I recorded this in my bedroom & than we added kankles played by @indre____ & guitar by @granvat ( Bert Cools ). @katiebuckleyharpist brought her harp to my studio, @ulfur added much needed bass tones & hint of drums by @juliansartorius_
Múm member, Nordic Council Music Prize Winner, and tour-de-force composer Gyða Valtýsdóttir @gydatru released her latest album Mother Pearl on March 20. Drawing on philosophical inspiration, Mother Pearl is possibly Gyða’s most personal work yet, enveloped by an artful take on chamber pop.

The last song to be written and the opening track on Mother Pearl was co-written by Kjartan Sveinsson.
We recorded the song live in his studio @sundlaugin . Feeling reluctant to do any overdubs on this, I ended up adding cellos but they sort of disintegrated through a Lexicon prime time delay, only get flickers of it. Prime Time is one of my favourite effects and I used it a lot on my last album Ox. It is hard to come by in Iceland but I borrowed one from a fellow cellist Eyþór Arnalds 🤍
Last show in China tonight ✨
Such an amazing hospitality, the best food I’ve ever tasted & lovely audience✨👌✨

Mother Pearl is here, the new album by Gyða Valtýsdóttir.
A work of depth and delicacy — unfolding somewhere between classical composition, experimentation, and pure feeling.
Gyða continues to shape a sonic language that is entirely her own.
