Here’s a little about us: We are part of @ourmutual_friend , a collective of three local mom-run businesses in one location, alongside @midsummer_books and @fingerprint.bookshop . We recently opened up our Community Room to host events and activities, and just be a gathering and play space for kids (and adults!) At Gus & Ruby, we buy and sell new and gently used children’s clothing (sizes NB-12 years), gear, and toys. We currently have adorable new @originalduckhead umbrellas for kids and adults and @roshamboeyewear glasses for infants and kids. We are planning to stock new items like kids’ sunscreen, hair products, and more in the near future! We also support local families in need with our mutual aid shelf, so we encourage you to donate formula, diapers, and other baby and personal care items and take what you need! The mutual aid shelf at @ourmutual_friend has been moved outside to a cabinet that will be open during store hours (likely to expand during the summer, so stay tuned for updates). If there’s one thing you can say about May as a parent in Philly, it’s this: absolutely nobody knows what day it is anymore. Days off, field trips, midday performances, spirit weeks… it’s chaos out there. So we figured we’d help fill a few of the gaps. This Election Day — Tuesday, May 19 — Our Mutual Friend will be open all day with special drop-in activities for kids, tweens, teens, and grownups who just need somewhere cozy to exist for a few hours. Most importantly, all day long we’ll be hosting a drop-in postcard writing station in opposition to H.R. 7661, the federal book banning bill headed to the House floor. We’re proud to join the @authorsagainstbookbans effort to support the freedom to read and stand against legislation that targets diverse stories, educators, librarians, and young readers. 11AM — Bookish Craft Hour: Zentangle Art (best for ages 10+) drop in $10
1PM — Board Game Free Play (FREE)
3PM — Fantasy Map Making Workshop (best for ages 8+) drop in $10 Come for one activity or stay all day. Bring a friend, grab a snack, write a postcard, play a game, make something creative, and spend the day surrounded by books and community. Meet Our Mutual Friend. Part neighborhood bookshop, part kids’ resale store, part gathering space, and fully built around the idea that community spaces should feel welcoming, creative, and make you say, “wait, what is this?” Ok maybe not so much that last part, so here’s a quick proper intro into who we are:
 What started as a pop-up shop by @gusandrubyresale (who thoughtfully curates secondhand kids’ clothing, toys, and gear) has grown into a true store experience.

Joined by @midsummer_books (Curating children’s books, YA, events, book clubs, and stories for every kind of reader) and
@fingerprint.bookshop (gently used books, select new books, blind dates with a book, book clubs, and gifts for grown-up readers) Together, we’ve created a shared space where families, readers, neighbors, and curious wanderers can slow down, discover something new, and feel at home. Come browse the shelves, flip through a stack of books, find the next favorite outfit, join a book club, or just hang out for a while. We’re so excited to welcome you into Our Mutual Friend. We are collaborating with @fishtown_playschool for their annual sidewalk sale this year! Seeking good condition baby and kids clothes and smaller toys, with all proceeds benefiting the playschool. Donation deadline is this Friday, May 8th. You can drop off in store during open hours this Thursday and Friday (just let us know that they are for the playschool fundraiser). Anything not sold will go into our inventory or donated to the @freebgx via @circlethrift . And stop by May 16th and 17th to shop all the great goodies inside and outside of @ourmutual_friend including books for kids at @midsummer_books and adults at @fingerprint.bookshop
