Maus 22.07.10-16.11.24
My best friend, co-pilot and velvet queen left us peacefully on Saturday night. She was surrounded by love to the very end, on her favorite poof and blanket, at home and in my arms. So many memories of this magical creature run through my aching heart this morning.
A very observant kid once called her a āland dolphinā another one said she was like āsilk and bonesā. To me, she was my rock, my constant, my family and my soul mate.
She came with me everywhere. Test screenings, art openings, sound checks, film sets, trains, planes and even sailing boats. My comrade on road trips and work trips all around the worldā¦nose out, wind in fur, eyes twinkling in the sun. She raced up and down multiple hotel corridors, frolicked in the crystal clear waters of Formentera and sniffed the snow in Santa Fe.
Impossibly beautiful, she glammed down avenues and trails with her usual poise, the light hitting her soft coat in different ways. Sometimes she was blue, sometimes tawny brownā¦.the sun kissing a little blonde tinge on her warm fur. And she smelled of heavenā¦a hint of a haystack on a summers day. A quick sniff of her popcorn feet would always cheer me up.
I would never have had the courage to move to California if it hadnāt been for Maus. I knew if she was by my side we could do anything.
And we did. She kept me mindful of each moment, healthy and out in the open. Her heartbeat beside me on tough sleepless nights reminded me I was never alone. She taught me how to balance life with work. To put things in perspective. To play and to love unconditionally.
Simply put, Maus made me a better human
Because of her, I met so many wonderful people on trails and beaches, avenues, rivers, mountains and city parks. Not just fleeting friends, but friends for life.
She touched so many peoples lives and hearts and Iām sure sheād want to thank all the Maus lovers who took care of her over the years.
Somewhat of a celebrity in her own right, strangers would come up to me and say āIs that Maus?ā It was clear she was the star of the show and I was mearly her trusty chaperone. (Continued in first commentā¦.)
