We made a custom look for @chappellroan 🖤! Where to begin?! The construction of this ensemble began just six days before Orange Festival in Warsaw, Poland. @genesiswbb and Chappell presented one of the coolest inspirations we’ve ever seen, and we knew we had to take it on. This look would combine both Gunnar’s expertise and love for historical fashion with @christopherminafo ’s photorealistic painting skills and creative genius. The concept was meta and self-referential: Chappell would appear multiple times in the outfit, with each head wearing an Elizabethan ruff (including her own). It started with a 3D sculpt by Christopher, which we printed for the hat and scepter. He hand-painted her face on both, and we topped them with fiery locks to match hers. Yes—both the hat and the scepter have their own hats and ruffs. 😂 Gunnar created the bra, bloomer panty, corset, and giant ruff skirt and custom gloves & Christopher hand-painted her face across the corset and bra, forming a full portrait when worn. Once the corset and skirt were removed in a burlesque-style reveal, the bra showed Gatsby-style eyes. This look includes: • 7 quilted duchess satin Elizabethan ruffs, piped with color-shifting silk taffeta • 4 hand-beaded Chantilly lace masks, each scaled to fit a different “head” • A 3D sculpted version of Chappell’s head, painted as a doll—complete with mask, gloves, and a scepter • A mini sculpted head, painted and wearing its own tiny hat and ruff • Custom shoelaces, appliqués, and a TON of love Huge shoutout to the team who brought this to life: Styling: @genesiswbb Design: @gunnardeatherage @christopherminafo Custom Painting: @christopherminafo Stitchers: @renacioreyes @juliabrowndesign , Ali Pawlukojc Makeup Inspo for the paint : @1800andrewdahling 3D Print Tech: “MD” And thank you to my Project Runway fam @candicecuoco @an_erin @mondoguerra @garosparo —for showing up when I needed help most. Part 2 of transforming our sunroom into a French inspired library! We have a long journey to go, but we are starting with the floors! Listen, we are not experts, but we did watch more than enough long form YouTube videos to try to figure out the best way to go about it. This tile was laid in the 1970s, and because the subfloor was so uneven, and because they did not seal it correctly, it had destroyed itself over time we wanted to go with a tile that is going to feel historic, modern and it’s color combination, but a classic nonetheless. I had the absolute dreamiest time collaborating with @gunnardeatherage on our latest Patreon pattern. I’ve been a fan of Gunnar’s for a long time, and together we conjured up a project inspired by Degas, Charles James, and Christian Dior. With Met Gala visions in our heads, we shot the Etoile Gown at Boscobel here in the magical Hudson valley. This historic mansion and its grounds were the perfect backdrop for this fantasy of a collaboration. I designed the bodice, Gunnar designed that stunning ballgown skirt, and each pattern is available in sizes 2-34 on our respective Patreons. Of course, we always love to make our patterns mix and match—and you can see here how the Etoile Bodice works with other patterns in our Lamour series. Recreating one of the most scandalous dresses in all of art history, meet “Madame X”! This is by far one of my favorite dresses ever captured on canvas, and with the theme of the Met Gala this year, exploring the relationship between fashion, and how it is depicted in other art forms, this to me is the most appropriate painting to have in the Spotlight.
