Comment *BRIGHT* for links to these totally unit block aligned acrylic block sets!
I could not be more excited to introduce something truly first-of-its-kind: 100% mathematically unit block aligned acrylic block sets โ and theyโre finally HERE! ๐
Working on these has been an absolute dream. Getting to innovate on my all-time favorite toy, and bring new possibilities for learning through play to families and classrooms everywhere? Pure magic. โจ
These blocks lived in my imagination for years before I got the chance to team up with @guidecraft_official to make them real โ and the wait was so worth it.
Unit blocks have existed virtually unchanged for over 100 years. You know why? Because theyโre the best. The ultimate open-ended play tool. But even the best things deserve a fresh idea.
Until now, gravity has been the main force kids explore in block play. By incorporating acrylic, children can now discover light and color too โ physics exploration through play, with truly endless possibilities. ๐
These are the first acrylic unit blocks ever made. They honor Caroline Prattโs incredible block play system while innovating on it in a way that stays true to her deepest goals for childhood learning: open-ended tools that encourage totally child-directed play.
I really do believe sheโd love them ๐

And it goes like thisโฆ at least once a day ๐
Right down to the feet painting, thatโs her favorite part!
How we got here:
โจ washable paint only
โจ a dedicated space to contain the process
โจ an art smock you EXPECT to get destroyed
โจ freedom to choose colors + tools
(sheโs currently obsessed with spray bottles = fine motor skills bonus ๐)
โจ yes to painting her feet (art)
โจ no to painting her eyeballs (chaos, we still need some rules ๐ )
Toddlers donโt learn to love art from perfect setups. They learn because someone let them explore without panicking over the mess.
So go ahead, lay down a canvas, bring out the paper and paint, maybe sing a little song, watch the magic happen and wait until they start bringing the materials to you!

Now that the weather is finally warming up here, weโve been taking some of our indoor toys outside. Iโve seen how this sparks my kidโs imaginations and gets them playing with their toys in new ways. Highly recommend giving it a try!
This is the woodlands dollhouse from @guidecraft_official and we spent some time playing with it outdoors the other day. Itโs a great set and I love the natural wood furniture pieces that come with it!

Our @guidecraft_official Sensory Table System is one of the most used pieces in our homeschool and play space!
The kids turned it into a little wash station for their playsilksโ scrubbing, rinsing, squeezing, and hanging them to dry. Simple, meaningful, sequential work like this always keeps them engaged the longest and they have a blast learning while playing!
Sensory play + practical life skills + independent play all in one!
The Sensory Table System is finally back in stock for all those who have been waiting! ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐

Color mixing just got a lot more fun! The green they mixed at the end is my personal favorite ๐! The kids had a blast using our Sensory System and tubes from @guidecraft_official to make process art ๐จ!
Comment MIX and Iโll send you the details to some of the resources weโre using here if youโre interested ๐.
We diluted the washable paint with water in our treasure tubes and mixed it up, then placed our marbles from the unit ball run into the paint and rolled them down the tubes. It was fun to see the marbles bump off the sides of the bins and create new colors and designs as they rolled. We added some more marbles after awhile and the sound of them going down the tubes all at the same time was super fun!
After a bit the kids really wanted to dump the paint water, so we diluted it even further and then they poured it down the tubes. We loved seeing the colors swirl together to make new colors. We poured two primary colors at the same time and watched as they changed color right as they exited the tubes and combined! So fun ๐คฉ! Looking forward to doing this again as the warm weather seems to finally be here โ๏ธ!

If you own a Guidecraft Kitchen Helper purchased during this time period, please:
โข Visit (/pages/product-recall) or using the link in our bio to see if your particular Kitchen Helper was affected. ย
โข If yours was affected, please fill out the web form there. Guidecraft will then send a free replacement kit with a new platform, required hardware, and step-by-step installation instructions. Please refrain from using the Kitchen Helper until you receive the repair kit.ย
โข If yours was purchased after Oct. 2023 or was not among the affected lot numbers, feel free to continue to enjoy using your Kitchen Helper.

Every gardener deserves the right tools! ๐ชด
Gardening is play when we let go of expectations, set kids up with the necessary tools, and allow them to experience the joy of getting messy!
Play isnโt a specific set of activities. Itโs the feeling a child has while doing them. That can look like stacking blocks into a tower, but it can also look like scooping soil into a pot. (My friend Carly Bedard has lots more to say about this!) When itโs the choice of the child, any activity can feel like play and as you surely know - play is learning! โจ
This potting bench is by @guidecraft_official and we recently added it to the outside space at my parentsโ house for my kids and their cousins to play with. Itโs a perfect set up for gardening with Nana but itโs also been the perfect place for mud kitchen play! The kidsโ favorite part is how the counter slides open to reveal the bin! So many beautiful messes happen here ๐ฅฐ

Since there wasnโt space in the main part of Wโs room for a desk, I decided to revamp the closet to make a space for this table and chairs set from @guidecraft_official . I think it turned out so cute, but thereโs a lot more going on here than just a tiny closet makeover.

As each of our kids has transitioned away from nap time and into rest time/quiet time, we create an area in their room where they can use art materials in a designated space however they like during rest time (or any time of day). A designated space, that is child led, reinforces a childโs sense of autonomy and validates the importance of their big ideas. This builds the foundational belief that they are capable of initiating and completing their own work, and that their creations and work are important enough to take up space in our house.
It is so amazing to see how proud and engaged her own space makes her feel ๐. She had tons of input on which materials and supplies she wanted stocked in there right away, and has added things as she has come up with new ideas the last few weeks. Her main must haves were watercolor paints, glue, pom poms, markers, index cards, and googly eyes. She often starts the day at breakfast telling me a project she thought of that she wants to work on later that day and carries her plan out during rest time, finding her way back to the project when sheโs back in her room before bed. Itโs so sweet to see her hang something she made that day on her wall, and then she brings the whole family in to show them.
Iโll be sharing more tips about how to make a โyesโ space that creates an environment where kids are in control of the creative process soon. As well as how to begin this process together so there have been plenty of prior opportunities and experiences to use materials and supplies properly and safely, and how to take care of materials when they are done, before having total freedom with a space like this.
Paola Lopez, the extraordinary educator behind Kinderoo Academy and her team prepare environments for their students with the knowledge that theyโll never know where the children will go with the tools and materials they provide. That understanding is deeply rooted in their school philosophy of honoring the creativity, imagination, and potential of every child. Videos from our vist toย @kinderoo_academy to see the amazing work happening there!
Celebrate teachers who turn curiosity into confidence this week! During Teacher Appreciation Week, we are grateful for patient, creative, encouraging educators who make every child feel important and capable.
