The Stranger L’Étranger 🎬 | Spoiler-Free Theater Review | BRYN MAWR 05/15/26
François Ozon adapts Albert Camus’ The Stranger into a haunting black-and-white philosophical drama about a man who refuses to perform for society.
Meursault’s honesty becomes his downfall after his mother’s funeral, turning a simple crime into a deeper question of morality, identity, and whether society punishes truth more than action.
Benjamin Voisin delivers a restrained, powerful performance, and Rebecca Marder adds emotional depth and chemistry that grounds the film.
The cinematography by Manu Dacosse is outstanding—every frame feels intentional, almost like moving Caravaggio paintings.
What stood out most is how the film leans into Camus’ philosophy of absurdism: a world searching for meaning that may not exist, while demanding people act like it does.
I loved it, but I also recognize I’m probably the exact target audience for this kind of film—someone who connects with philosophical storytelling and Camus’ worldview.

The Stranger Review | Albert Camus, Existentialism & Colonial Algeria
I just watched the trailer for The Stranger and this honestly looks like one of the most intelligent movies of the year.
Based on the 1942 novel by Albert Camus, the story follows a detached man named Meursault living in colonial Algeria in 1938. After his mother dies and a violent incident changes his life forever, society seems more disturbed by his lack of emotion than the crime itself.
Directed by acclaimed French filmmaker François Ozon, shot in stunning black-and-white by Manu Dacosse, and starring César Award winner Benjamin Voisin, this looks visually incredible and philosophically layered.
What really connected with me is Camus’ philosophy of absurdism — the idea that life may not hand us meaning, so we choose our own purpose. That mirrors a lot of the self-development work I’ve done over the last 35 years, so this movie hit me in a very personal way.
🍅 Rotten Tomatoes: 91%
Ⓜ️ Metacritic: 84
⭐ IMDb: 7.1
Definitely one of my most anticipated arthouse releases of the year.

The Punisher: One Last Kill 🎬 | Fresh Off Streaming Review | DISNEY+
Jon Bernthal is BACK as Frank Castle and Marvel’s newest Special Presentation might be one of the most intense things the MCU has released in years. 💀🔥
The Punisher: One Last Kill dives deep into PTSD, grief, addiction, and violence while still delivering brutal John Wick-style action sequences that absolutely rip. Directed by Ronaldo Marcus Green (We Own This City, King Richard), this Disney+ special feels darker, rawer, and more emotional than most recent Marvel projects.
The dialogue can be a little stereotypical at times, but Bernthal’s performance carries the entire thing and reminds everyone why he IS The Punisher.
Marvel Special Presentations continue to be underrated gems.

The Backrooms Isn’t The Story… The Director Is
The final trailer for The Backrooms dropped today… and honestly, I didn’t love the trailer.
BUT the story behind this movie is fascinating.
A24 hired 19-year-old YouTuber Kane Parsons — aka Kane Pixels — to direct a full feature film based on his viral Backrooms videos.
Now the movie has:
🎬 James Wan producing
🧠 a Westworld writer shaping the script
⭐️ Chiwetel Ejiofor starring
🎭 Renate Reinsve from Sentimental Value
This feels like a major shift in Hollywood.
Studios used to discover directors at film festivals.
Now they’re discovering them on YouTube.
And honestly? That might be the REAL story here.

The Roast of Kevin Hart | Fresh OFF Of STREAMING Review | NETFLIX 05/12/26
Just finished the Netflix roast of Kevin Hart and honestly… it was messy, overstuffed, too long… and still REALLY entertaining.
Three hours is wild for a roast, and not every set landed, but there were enough huge moments to make it worth the watch.
The Philly energy carried this thing for me. Kevin Hart, The Roots being there, Meek Mill closing the show, and Shane Gillis absolutely stealing the night? Pennsylvania was running the whole event.
Shane Gillis had the best set of the evening for me. Fearless, awkward in the perfect way, and every joke felt dangerous. Katt Williams crushed too. The Diddy party jokes were insane. And somehow Dwayne Johnson ended up being one of the funniest people there.
I also loved Tom Brady showing up and joking about Eagles fans. That killed me.
But the roast definitely had issues. Too many skits. Too many non-comedians. Some repetitive Kevin Hart height jokes. Teyana Taylor’s segment dragged, and the weird Sheryl Underwood / Shane Gillis N-word moment made the room uncomfortable.
Still… even when parts didn’t work, I never wanted to turn it off. That says a lot.
Not as good as the Tom Brady roast… but definitely worth watching.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 | Spoiler-Free Review 👿🎬
Just dropped our review of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 and honestly… this show is ALL over the place.
There are moments that genuinely work:
🔥 Bullseye was incredible
🔥 Kingpin still dominates scenes
🔥 Michael Gandolfini brought a really interesting energy and you can absolutely see flashes of James Gandolfini in him
But at the same time… there were entire stretches where I was bored.
Some of the action felt cartoonish, the music constantly telegraphed what was about to happen, and visually the show had this foggy/misty look that distracted me throughout the season.
My brother liked it WAY more than I did, which actually made the review more fun because we went back and forth on almost everything. 😂
Overall? Slightly positive… but Marvel really needs Season 3 to hit harder.

Our Hero, Balthazar Might Be The Most Uncomfortable Laugh Of 2026 😳🎬
Fresh out of the theater after seeing Our Hero, Balthazar at Ritz Five… and yeah this movie is DARK.
Starring Asa Butterfield, the film dives into school shootings, internet culture, isolation, and modern teenage alienation through jet-black comedy that somehow still works.
I honestly laughed out loud multiple times while also thinking “should I even be laughing at this?” — which is probably the point.
What really worked for me was the contrast between the two lead characters and how your empathy shifts throughout the movie. It almost says more about the audience than the characters themselves.
The performances were strong across the board, and while a couple scenes felt limited by budget constraints, the movie’s confidence and tone carried it through.
Apparently the film was rejected by Sundance and SXSW and had scenes cut to secure an R rating… but personally I didn’t think it crossed the line. I thought it was bold, uncomfortable, funny, and surprisingly smart.

This 94 Metacritic Movie Might Secretly Be Incredible 🎬
I almost skipped right past Blue Heron because it looked like a quiet family drama. Then I saw the reviews…
94 on Metacritic.
97% on Rotten Tomatoes.
That is basically unheard of.
So I started researching it and found out writer-director Sophy Romvari already has short films featured by The Criterion Collection, and now she’s got a feature film getting major festival recognition.
The trailer feels elegant, emotional, and extremely cinematic. It looks like a story about a little girl trying to understand her older brother’s mental struggles inside a Hungarian immigrant family living on Vancouver Island.
Could it be slow? Absolutely.
Could it also be one of the best movies of the year? Maybe.
90 minutes. PG-13.
Definitely on my radar now.

The Kevin Hart Roast Could Either Be Legendary… Or WAY Too Long 👀🔥
I’m not gonna lie… I am REALLY looking forward to The Roast of Kevin Hart on Netflix this Sunday.
The Tom Brady roast was one of the funniest live events Netflix has done in YEARS, and now Kevin Hart is stepping into the fire. Literally.
That teaser trailer had Kevin roasting a wax statue of himself while everything exploded around him like it was an Oppenheimer movie 😭🔥
Now honestly? The trailer itself didn’t fully land for me comedically… BUT Shane Gillis hosting immediately raises my interest level. And if Jeff Ross is performing too, we’re already off to a strong start.
The only thing I keep thinking about is the runtime… THREE HOURS?! That’s a serious commitment for a roast 😂
I’m definitely excited for it, but I still don’t know if I’m watching the whole thing live on Mother’s Day night or just catching the best clips afterward.
Either way… this feels like one of those internet comedy events everybody is gonna be talking about Monday morning.

Our Hero, Balthazar Might Be The Most Disturbing Indie Trailer of 2026 😳🎬
Just watched the trailer for Our Hero, Balthazar and this movie looks absolutely wild. Dark satire, internet culture obsession, anti-gun activism, possible mass shooter themes, and serious Nightcrawler/Joker energy. The contrast between elite New York life and rural Texas looks like a huge part of the story. Critics are already calling it bold, disturbing, and unforgettable. Jaeden Martell and Asa Butterfield both look incredible here. This could end up being one of the most talked-about indie films of the year.

A24’s Tony Trailer Reaction 🔥 The Story Behind Anthony Bourdain
A24 just dropped the trailer for Tony, a biopic about Anthony Bourdain—and it looks deeply personal. Inspired by Kitchen Confidential, this film goes beyond the celebrity chef image and into the mindset, memories, and struggles that shaped his life.
Directed by Matt Johnson (BlackBerry), the trailer suggests this won’t just be about food—it’s about legacy, identity, and the moments that stay with us.
This one feels like it could hit hard.

Nolan’s Odyssey Trailer Looks INSANE… But I Have Concerns 👀
Christopher Nolan just dropped the Odyssey trailer and this might be his most ambitious film yet.
We’re talking a $250M budget, the first movie ever shot entirely on IMAX 70mm, and massive real-world locations across Greece, Iceland, and Morocco.
Visually? Unreal.
But… the American accents and lack of historical accuracy? That might be a bold choice that doesn’t work for everyone.
Still—if anyone can pull this off, it’s Nolan.
This could be something special.
