@transcordilleras Stage 5 Pacho->Ubaté. 54mi, 8,200ft in 4.5 hours. This is what I thought would be the hardest stage for me. A 5,000ft climb to start and ~30 miles above 10,000ft of elevation. Breathing was my one and only focus. Once we got off the climb and onto the dirt, ooouuuwwweeee I felt like pushing the pedals. Rolling terrain, some bits of tech and big views had me excited to start racing. Up to this point, I kept telling myself I was here as a tourist. No need to chase or push hard, but instead keep even pressure on the pedals and focus on the basics- eat, drink, deep breaths and protecting my bike/tires. We hit the high roads and I couldn’t help but surge. Rolling with
@cheset and
@marcostalder_ across the paramo was a joy. Eventually we caught up the abuelo of gravel-
@laurens_ten_dam and ended the day with a scary, loose and fast descent that still felt somewhat in control. Boy can these dudes rip a descent. Following the stage
@twanaltorf led me on a dead end mission for food in the square… we ended up descending back down to find food. Post race hangout had us in the square again, playing with camera angles laughing and eating some dessert described as a “fruit typical”. 🤣 📸:
