Hi, I’m Esther, the chocolatier behind Grumpy Chocolatier 🍫
I realized I’ve never properly introduced myself here, so hi 🤍
I’m the one making, painting, and packing every bonbon you see. I’m usually in a quiet little chocolate studio in LA.
I started making chocolate during the pandemic with no formal training, just curiosity and a lot of trial and error. My background is in fine arts, which is why I approach chocolate more like a medium than just dessert.
I’m especially inspired by my travels visiting chocolatiers and dessert shops, bringing back ideas and ingredients, and turning those experiences into flavors that feel familiar, but a little unexpected.

📍 Do you have a storefront?
Not at the moment. I currently sell through pop ups, pickups, preorders, and limited drops.
📦 Do you ship?
Yes, I ship all over the USA year round, with a short pause during the summer when temperatures are too high. 🫠
🍫 What kind of bonbons do you make?
A mix of classic, Asian-inspired, and dessert-inspired bonbons. My favorites are the ones meant to feel like a full dessert in a single bite.
—
A few random things about me:
• I tend to obsess over making bonbons that are almost too pretty to eat
• I’m not as grumpy as the name suggests… unless something goes wrong in the chocolate studio
• I travel mostly to eat and find inspiration
• Ironically, I’m allergic to chocolate

Thanks for being here and supporting what I do 🤍
Aren’t these chocolates so cute?!

Esther creates small batch artisan chocolate bonbons out of Los Angeles, handcrafted from shell to filling
and blending classic techniques with Asian-inspired and dessert-inspired flavors. Thoughtful, playful, and
made to be gifted. Or kept entirely for yourself. No judgment here.
At Open House she’s bringing a curated selection inspired by her recent trip to Japan. The kind of table
you leave with more than you planned.
