Across Queensland, people are living in all kinds of homes, each one offering a place to call home and telling its own story. From beachside townhouses to outback gardens, retirement villages to shared family homes, housing is about more than shelter. It’s about lifestyle, connection and community.
We spoke to five families who told us about their homes and lifestyles:
🌆 Thomas and Emily chose an apartment close to work and parks on the #GoldCoast.
🌳 Lisa and Pete’s family rent a detached home in #Cooktown that supports their life in practical ways.
🥕 Chris and Harry, empty nesters in #Quilpie, growing their own veggies and enjoying the peace of small-town living.
👵 David and Jan downsized to a retirement village in #Ipswich and found new friendships.
👨👩👧 Nick and Bronwyn live in an intergenerational home on the #SunshineCoast, sharing life with their daughter.
Every home is different and that’s what makes Queensland strong. 💛

🏡 What’s a regional plan?
Think of it like a roadmap for the next 20 years identifying areas for housing and economic growth and including an infrastructure plan to ensure hospitals, roads and schools go where they're most needed.
It’s designed with input from locals like you, councils, and the Queensland Government, to make sure we have a shared long-term plan ready that protects what makes your region special.

Should we have more houses on the edge of our community or fit more into existing streets? Queensland needs both!
Building more homes in established areas makes better use of existing infrastructure. Expanding into new areas can be more affordable to build and buy, but often costs more overall because it means building new roads, water, sewerage systems, schools and healthcare from scratch.
In planning terms, it's known as ‘consolidation’ and ‘expansion’.
