My intention at the outset was to keep Group Chat hella organized and consistent but life is too busy and too real for everything to be standardized and ~perfect~ so I’m rolling out event offerings in a rhythm that feels organic and pragmatic
@groupchat.irl has always been about coming together to share space and ideas — the conversation series (designed to build an archive of contemporary cultural interviews) is one half of the mission, but hosting creative mixers is the other half — times for us to stretch and strengthen ourselves in community
In September we welcomed
@__finocchi__ for a far west coast food pop up, which was a sincere joy and beautiful effort rooted in friendship…our first event in collaboration with another platform, focused on community via breaking bread as a tool for gathering, and altar-building as an honoring of legacy
Next month we are launching a new tentpole program, WORD PROCESSING, an intimate reading, writing, and storytelling salon where we study folktales, fairytales, myths, legends, and fables — annotating and responding to them in community. This idea is rooted in my personal love of classics and etymology (yes, i studied latin from 6th grade-sophomore year of college and never got great grades but stuck with it for the vibes…salve amice!), curiosity about gods, goddesses, fairies, and trickster spirits (aka that which can be felt but not always seen), reverence for the oral storytelling tradition as a vehicle for ancestral wisdom-sharing, and my lifelong pursuit of demystifying the motifs of myths and folklore in an effort to better understand culture, heritage, society, symbols, and the origin of things.
The inaugural Word Processing event is Sunday, December 14th in Mid-City LA and is limited to 10 spots. Link in bio to sign up. I love being a nerd!
