San Luis is now live on our website. This coastal garden draws heavily from Old World traditions, inspired by the Italian countryside and rugged Australian coastal gardens, and reimagined through a California plant palette. Vibrant succulents emerge from cloud-pruned, textural shrubs with contrasting pops of flowering accents. Explore this coastal garden through the link in bio!

DYNAMIC MINDS, BRILLIANT INSPIRATION MAY 29 at #DesignSiliconValley A studio visit is led by best-selling author Diane Dorrans Saeks at JESS FIELD, FIELD ARCHITECTURE with very special guest Bernard Trainor from Ground Studio. The full program starts with a presentation by architect Jess Field, showing images of the firm’s newest work, including newly completed residences that have not been published. Our Stone Villa project, with @feldmanarchitecture and photographed by @joefletcherphoto , is live on the website. A gently terraced ridgeline garden, the design restores over 90% of the site to native oak woodland and grassland, with every material locally sourced, and every grade considered. We’re grateful for the attention this project has received, and for the chance it gives us to reflect on the meaningful client conversations, the first site visit, the collaborative design charrettes, the site-facing olive trees, and so much more.

Partner and Planting Director David LeRoy recently gave a studio talk on biodiversity metrics for planting design. He highlighted how to select species that maximize food sources for birds, insects, and pollinators using tools like the National Wildlife Federation’s Plant Finder and Calscape to measure species richness. A few standout species: Pinus radiata supports up to 80 moths and butterflies. It is one of the two trees native exclusively to coastal Monterey County, alongside Cupressus macrocarpa. Arbutus menziesii feeds over a dozen bird and mammal species through its spring nectar and fall berries, and provides preferred nesting habitat for woodpeckers and cavity-nesting birds. It is a host plant for up to 40 moths and butterflies. Ceanothus gloriosus is a nitrogen-fixing groundcover that enriches surrounding soil, feeds hummingbirds and bees, and serves as a larval host for the Ceanothus Silk Moth. It supports up to 77 moths and butterflies. Salvia rosmarinus is a beloved Mediterranean companion plant that draws bees in abundance.

Restoration of a home originally built in 1964. The property’s majestic beauty and ocean views are restored by reverting inappropriately placed walls back to glass in the main living area. Expanded use of wrap-around decks to blur the line between indoor and outdoor, making a stronger connection to the ocean. A sequence of smaller structures is distributed along the ridge to reduce visual impact, with a restrained palette of timber and stone allowing the buildings of Crestline Compound to settle into the terrain while collectively defining a cohesive arrangement around a shared courtyard. Architecture by @arcanumarchitecture Interior Design by Citron Home Built by @mjkhomesinc Landscape Design by @groundstudiolandscape Visuals by @3dq.studio #ArcanumArchitecture #Arcanum #architecture #interiordesign #design #architecturaldesign #residential #home #timeless #modern #contemporary #residentialarchitecture #modernhomes #homedesign #contemporaryarchitecture #luxuryhome #california #compound .

Garden Retreat is organized around a central pool terrace where the architecture dissolves the boundary between interior and exterior, allowing living spaces to extend softly into the landscape. The careful integration of water, planting, and shaded outdoor areas creates a continuous, inhabitable environment that encourages everyday life to unfold in close connection with the surrounding garden. Architecture by @arcanumarchitecture Built by @behrenscurry.homes Landscape Design by @groundstudiolandscape Visuals by @3dq.studio #ArcanumArchitecture #Arcanum #architecture #interiordesign #design #architecturaldesign #residential #home #timeless #modern #contemporary #residentialarchitecture #modernhomes #homedesign #menlopark #contemporaryarchitecture #luxuryhome #timber #poolsidevibes #poolside #poolsideliving .
