this art exhibition, “love song”, takes its jumping off point from a beloved poem and expands into scenes from caleb’s own life: a window, a room, a wine glass. the work explores the distance between the face we offer the world and the quieter self we carry in private, moving through longing, performance, hesitation, and the hope that there is still time to become fully ourselves.

we had the pleasure of getting to go to caleb’s studio last week, and get a sneak peek of the work for next thursday’s show.
caleb is a local artist in birmingham, alabama whose work explores emotion, narrative, and the natural world through richly layered color and expressive line work. working across mediums including oil, watercolor, and drawing, his practice blends representational imagery with a contemporary, atmospheric sensibility— often pushing familiar subjects into more dreamlike, introspective territory. this exhibition takes inspiration from one of caleb’s favorite poems, and expands into scenes from his own life.

this month we’ll be discussing nineteen minutes by jodi picoult — a powerful novel that explores the complexities of bullying, trauma, and the ripple effects of violence within a community. the story examines the events leading up to a school shooting, asking difficult questions about accountability, empathy, and what it means to really know someone.
the book has been challenged and banned in some schools because of its mature themes, but many readers believe those themes are exactly why stories like this are important to talk about.
join us as we read, reflect, and discuss why books like this continue to be challenged.
