We’re proud to share that Red Apple STEAM School has been named one of the The Daily Reporter Top Projects of 2025! 🍎🏗️ Built in partnership with @grothdesigngroup for @racineunified School District, this facility replaces a former K–5 school with a modern K–8 learning environment designed around innovation, collaboration, and STEAM education. The school features dedicated Maker Spaces, music and performing arts rooms, and collaborative learning hubs within each academic wing. A 35,000-square-foot gymnasium with two full-size basketball courts provides flexible athletic and instructional space, while separate playgrounds serve both elementary and middle school students. One of the project’s most unique elements is how the building itself supports learning. Mechanical rooms include glass viewing windows, and plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems are intentionally exposed and labeled with student-friendly signage—helping students understand how the building works as a system and reinforcing the school’s STEAM-focused mission. Sustainability also played a key role in the design. The facility includes rooftop solar arrays, a 4,350-square-foot vegetative green roof that doubles as an outdoor learning space, and energy-monitoring displays that allow students to track real-time solar production. From early BIM coordination and innovative planning methods to strong collaboration across the entire project team, this facility was delivered on time, safely, and with a lasting impact on the community. We’re honored to have played a role in creating a school designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and future generations of learners.

Last night, @racineunified celebrated the completion of Red Apple School with a ribbon cutting and open house. For the very first time, this state-of-the-art school housed hundreds of RUSD faculty, board members, administrators, students, families, City leaders, and community members. The list goes on! It was fantastic to see the excitement and support from the community for this school. We are proud of our journey and partnership with RUSD and thrilled to be a part of this next chapter – celebration and move in day next week! Congratulations Racine Unified School District and Red Apple School! Enjoy your new school. 🍎🏫

Thomas (Tommy) Schneider, project architect, first felt a calling to healthcare design while his wife underwent treatment for Ewing Sarcoma. Fast forward 10 years and Tommy’s wife is in remission, and their hands and hearts are full taking care of their twins. The first chapter of parenthood threw them a curveball, as their daughter was diagnosed in utero with a severe congenital heart defect. No stranger to patient‑level healthcare interactions, Tommy brings a design approach guided by lived experience and grounded in the full care journey. Meet Tommy and hear his story in the latest edition of Building with Heart. 🧡 #BuildingwithHeart #wearegdg
