Q) Whatâs been your favourite moment DJing so far?
A) When I had my gig at the depo in Plymouth, my home town. I hadnât been DJing for that long, and was used to playing to about 80-100. So, jumping to a full professional club setup, with around 400 people in the crowd at peak time, was a massive jump. That will change soon, as Iâve got bookings coming in up and down the country which Iâm super excited about! Coming from such a small town, it can be really hard to get gigs, so Iâm super grateful.
Q) What have been your musical influences growing up?
A) Iâve always been surrounded by electronic music, due to my dad liking all kinds of elcectronic genres, such as drum and bass, house, breakbeats, the lot. He always used to just like the beats of tracks, even within hip hop and genres outside of electronic music. So thatâs where I got my love for just stripped back beats across all genres, often I prefer stuff without vocals. Then, as I got older, Iâd always be buying obscure music for a young teen, from the likes of edm, deep house, drum and bass etc. I was listening to Hot Since 82 at the time, not even knowing he was such a big deal. Then, once I got into raving around 2018/19, I kind of just went down the rabbit hole from there. Once I started producing, around 2 years ago, I was making a lot of minimal house at that time. But, wanted to push my sound to a more darker tone, as thatâs the kind of house music that got me into raving.
Q) How did the idea behind the A-Side come about?
A) I knew I needed to make some kind of edit, as I often just make original tracks with the occasional well known sample (I just enjoy producing that way). So it was a nice test at the time, as I made this track about a year ago, to see if my producing skills/sound could carry across to something so heavily sampled and well known. A lot of the sounds and techniques in this track are still current in my productions 12 months later!Â
