Happy Halloween! I have a bunch of stuff to share today:
The first German Error Message album I released back in 2010, “To Carry Alongside,” turned 15 earlier this year. It never had a physical release so I’m bringing it to tape and CD with a remaster by @paul.vroom - it sounds great and I’m really glad that this one exists physically now and not just on the computer. @lungcycles letterpress printed the obi strips and each copy is hand numbered.
Also releasing today a batch of long sleeve Haunts shirts. These are professionally printed with black water-based ink. Heavyweight cotton with a comfortably oversized fit.
Finally, very excited to share the soundtrack for @sunshinegirlsfilm - an independent feature film that we’ve been working on for the last 5 years. The film premiered earlier this year at @defyfilmfest in Nashville where it won Best Feature. It’s being submitted to festivals now, so keep an eye on the Sunshine Girls page for screenings. This was my first feature film score and I hope that you like it.

The new Other Nothing album “Lr” is out today with songs recorded 2023 - 2024. Love and thanks to friends and family who listened to a million iterations of it as I tried to get it over the finish line. Hope that you enjoy, thank you for your kindness and thank you for listening.
‘Haunts’ turned 10 earlier this month. I started working on it when I was 21 and finally finished it in the fall of 2014 at 24. It came out on my 25th birthday. Big influences from The Microphones and from the mostly home recorded music I had become obsessed with in the early 2010s, the stuff that had led me to center my life around learning to make and record music in my late teens and early 20s. It is strange to have this younger version of myself crystalized in a way that many people identify as “me” more than a decade later - I have felt many different ways about it over the years. I love that this album seems to resonate most strongly with people who are around the ages that I was when I made it.
I can’t think about this record without thinking about Ryan. We lost Ryan on November 13th, 2024 almost five years after he was diagnosed with chordoma cancer. Ryan was constantly building community and connecting people around the things that he was most passionate about - limited and handmade physical media, art, music, 90s basketball. There are so many in the communities he built and fostered that are dealing with this loss.
The label that Ryan co-founded and later ran independently, Furious Hooves, put this album out in 2014 after we first connected via email the year before. Ryan did all of the design for the physical versions of the album, hand lettering the text and lyrics and home dubbing the first run of tapes. I realized years after we initially started talking that Ryan had been supporting my music long before we connected, playing songs from ‘After The Warmth’ (which Furious Hooves also released on cassette in 2022) on his college radio show at SCAD.
Over the decade that we knew one another, our conversations slowly drifted from the details of releasing music to just talking about life. He became a close friend, though we never met in person. He was always incredibly strong and open about what he was going through with his cancer diagnosis and treatments. I feel very lucky to have had his support and his friendship for as long as I did. I do not think this record would have been heard in the way that it has been without him. (1/2)
The self-titled German Error Message album from earlier this year is now available on cassette from Lily Tapes & Discs with beautiful letterpress printed artwork and design by @lungcycles - huge thanks to Ben for working on this release with me. I have a few copies of the tape available on my Bandcamp for Bandcamp Friday and you can get it along with new releases by Cla-ras and Distant Reader in the Fall 2024 bundle directly from Lily (link in bio).
Crazy to see “Ww” hit 100 million. Really appreciate the support for this one, thank you for listening 🌼
Excited to share new music from this project soon

Releasing a new self-titled German Error Message album today with songs from 2020-2023. Kind of at a loss for what to say about it other than it means a lot to me. This project turns 20 this year, an intense and difficult to fathom chunk of time. Cover art made in 2008, originally meant to be used as the ‘back cover’ for the first self-titled EP. So much love to you all, thanks for listening. Feels good to have this one out.
The second edition cassette printing of “Not Songs” is out today alongside “Window”, a 10 year label anniversary compilation on one of my all time fav labels, Lily Tapes & Discs / @lungcycles
I contributed a new German Error Message song and 4 new Other Nothing songs to the comp. Honored to share new songs alongside so many friends and folks whose work I love.
I have some copies of “Not Songs” available on the Other Nothing bandcamp page and on my store page but you can grab a copy of both tapes in the Fall 2023 Bundle directly from Lily.
For the fourth anniversary of my 2019 album “Not Songs,” I’m releasing a few different versions of “Ww” - the original 2016 version(s), versions I did for a film score that didn’t end up getting used, and two ‘dramatizations’ (fast & slow).
I originally recorded this one in 2016. That first arrangement had words, guitars, drums, and a very out-of-tune string section. Some songs feel like they are just for the person making them and this felt like one of those. I liked the sampler part though, and returned to it a few years later to make the version that appears on “Not Songs”.
It’s been really encouraging to have so many people discover and connect with this one. On Bandcamp now (link in bio), and will be on streaming services soon. Thanks for listening!
