Statement:
With Razhden Kuprashvili leading the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Georgian Dream has started a new wave of enforcing repressive laws against about 30 organizations.
GrlzWave, founded in 2019, and built on years of hard work, sleepless nights, mutual care, and solidarity, has now been targeted by Georgian Dream.
It is no surprise that our existence, women’s unity, and a young feminist movement that has been creating educational, informative, and analytical materials for years, is seen as a threat by the regime. Our goal has always been to raise public awareness and encourage empathy, solidarity, and unity in society and this is exactly what they fear.
It is also no surprise that we are seen as a threat by a regime that keeps dozens of young people in prison, including innocent women who are political prisoners.
Here are a few reasons why the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s demand is absurd:
– We have finished all partnerships and projects;
– We work only as volunteers;
– We’ve had no income for months;
– There is no factual or legal reason for the Bureau to request any materials from us;
– Everything we have done is public, you just need to scroll;
– The law “On Grants,” like other recently adopted laws, goes against the Constitution of Georgia and is designed to silence NGOs and erase civil society.
