𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗯 𝗔𝘂𝗹𝘁. Yesterday, a memorial was held at the ASC Clubhouse for Herb. It was packed to the doors with family, friends, and colleagues. It was a beautiful and musical event with exceptional stories and laughter throughout a somber afternoon. Herb was a legendary grip in our industry and a legendary individual on and off set. He is the father to one of my oldest dear friends, and as such, I've known Herb the entirety of my adult life and a bit before that even. He founded Grip Trix in 1995 and was way ahead of the curve in so many ways. He was a creative problem solver and inventor and created unique electric vehicles used as camera movement platforms that were way ahead of their time. I had an encounter based friendship with Herb. I'd either see him a handful of times a year or a handful of times in a week. I'd often bump into him on set, at rental houses, tradeshows, or at Sarah's shows. Sometimes, it was just a glance and a grin across a room. Other times, we found time to walk and talk for a bit. Often, his first question would be about Sarah, but then we'd get to chatting. He'd sometimes treat me to a famous Herbism or story, but we also talked about things he was working on. We spoke once for 3 hours about big batteries. And a year later, there it was. We had some good laughs about giving things a good wollup to get them to work, wrenching on things, or building rigs. Along the way, I certainly sought guidance from Herb in our conversations as my time in the industry grew as well as growing further into adulthood. His knowledge and humor were and are of great importance to me. Too much to write about there, but he certainly helped me wrangle the line with some oddly well-timed words. He was one of the few who really demonstrated the power of leaving a positive wake in his path. I admire that greatly. I know so many others who have stories and Herbism quotes that have stuck with them for years. And yesterday, in a crowded clubhouse that was on display in spades. And I know he's left a wider impact than those there. I certainly am one of many who gave a damn about Herb. Did my best to convey that along the way.
