Rebirth ft. @bin2ty @gripgodd This artwork aims to explore ideas of rebirth in a renaissance fashion as Bintou wears a hand made piece that she crafted from plastic bags that the hair she works with comes in showcasing sustainable fashion and spreading awareness of plastic pollution in the ocean. In some photos we see her held back by this plastic which can be a parallel to so many things in our lives that can be hindering us from arriving to the surface as our new reborn selves. Take from this art what you would like. I am very thankful to the team that helped bring this vision to life! Also another big thank you to Louie who is the gaffer on set of the show I work on who gave me lighting tips and allowed me to practice my lighting with his equipment! GRIPGODD WEAR YOUR HAIR EXHIBITION 2024 “THE AFRICANS” This display Pays homage to tradition and Showcases the importance of retaining community no matter where you are in the world. The hair braiding shop is not only a place of employment but also a hub of culture, connection, and friendship in most west African immigrant communities living in America. It is often our only safe space. I’m so honored to have gotten to share a little bit of my culture and upbringing with everyone. Thank you to everyone who came out! Thank you @chicagodcase for funding the ‘Wear Your Hair” exhibition with the individual artist program grant! #dcasegrants Dream team Models: tagged Photography: @pejamane Styling: @salsogroovy Hair: @msyadiyadi @gripgodd Makeup: @earthangel_beauties

Inama (ee-NAH-muh), noun Inama is a state of being; to evoke confidence, beauty, and resilience through reclaimation. Ex.: She is Inama. Intuitive Crochet Top (2024) Braided Drop-Waist Layered Hair Skirt (2025) Creative Director/Designer/Stylist: Amani J Photographer: Peja @pejamane Model/MUA: Monique @antoinettemw_ Hairstylist: Bintou @gripgodd Lash Artist: Taylor @tailordbeauty @tayyjanece This intuitive crochet top and braided hair skirt are inspired by my personal experience navigating Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome symptoms and the medical racism that delayed my diagnosis and treatment. PCOS is a hormonal condition that can cause excess androgen levels, irregular menstrual cycles, insulin resistance, severe acne, infertility, and weight gain. I have transformed my struggle with excessive male-pattern hair growth into a practice that turns pain into beauty through braided artwork. The intuitive crochet method represents the natural progression from overcoming the challenges of obtaining a formal diagnosis to the transformative journey of liberation from self-hate through art. These braided motifs in both the top and skirt are used as a symbol of black beauty and are deeply rooted in cultural tradition, containing the power and resilience that comes from embracing my unique beauty and reclaiming my sense of self. My broader goal is to use my art as a vehicle for racial and reproductive justice, generating awareness and funding that supports Black women struggling with PCOS and advances medical research.
