Grassroots mural honors Stockton as birthplace of the Fantastic Four
Hello to all of my friend and family,
A group of us local artists in Stockton have begun a community-led mural on the wall of Alās Comics ā with no city funding and no financial backing ā purely out of love for local history and art.
The mural celebrates a little-known but officially recognized piece of Stockton history: in the 1970s, a petition from Alās Comics led Stan Lee to acknowledge Stockton, California as the birthplace of the Fantastic Four.
After a neighboring historic theater was lost to a fire, the newly exposed wall became an unexpected canvas. Artists stepped up on their own to honor what was lost and what still stands.
With StocktonCon approaching, the timing has brought renewed interest ā but the artists are still seeking community support for paint, supplies, food, and water to finish the project.
This is a visual, grassroots story about local pride, comic history, and artists giving back. Weād love for you to come see the mural in progress or speak with the artists involved.
Thanks for your time and possible donation consideration,
Jason
