Jude’s first day of elementary school yesterday. TK at WISH. He was scared but he was brave. He seems so small to be in that big place. Jude is a cool dude. He’s a little crazy but he’s got a light in him burning brighter all the time.

I’m a serial hobbyist. I got into RC cars about a year ago. I’ve tried a few different sizes and styles. My favorite is my 1/24 scale rock crawler (the small orange one). When you get the build right, you can creep your way over rock obstacles like a mechanical beetle defying physics. Hard to film and drive but you get the point. The orange one is the first crawler I bought. I’ve replaced and upgraded every part except the receiver. Ship of Theseus. There’s a whole culture of people showing up to creeks, trails, quarries, cliffs, and rock piles just to drive these crawlers super fucking slow over impossible terrain. The best part, though, is repairing and upgrading these things. Real nice to use tools and do something IRL. Offscreen. It also builds confidence to just unscrew shit and see what’s going on generally in life around you. I like getting into these random hobbies. Meeting the friendly proselytizing weirdos building community around their niche thing. Thinking about one thing all day instead of a million things. I am most happy when I am full brain on some new hobby. I usually burn out after a couple years and then go nuts on some other thing. I learned about this rock crawler stuff randomly chatting with a friend at a wedding. What else is out here? Do you have a cool hobby I should try? If yer interested in the RC hobby hit my dm and I can get u some links. It’s not the cheapest, but you can tell yer partner it’s STEM for the kids…

Some flicks of the boys over the past month. I’m trying hard to be here, now, present, everyday. Jude just turned 4 and starts TK next month. Moe has started climbing up to stand against shit. I’ve been consuming a lot of content about humans from like 30,000 years ago making bone arrows and painting mammoths deep in French caves. Trying to just love my kin and take the long view. Doing fine, mostly. Hope all is well.

Went on a long foggy hike with Jude today. Pretty jealous of his fit in this pic tbh. We are excited to open presents tomorrow morning. Somehow we have both gotten really into RC Cars this season. Merry Christmas. 🎄

We are having another baby on November 27. Which also happens to be my birthday. I’m nervous and excited to expand the family. The past few years have been my best years. I feel pretty lucky to be where I’m at. I hope my friends are out there protecting their joy from the skeleton vultures spinning above. My suggestion is to simply not look up. Drink some water. Find amusement. That’s basically all there is, I’m pretty sure. And so welcome to earth, little fella. I’m excited to show you around and I hope you have fun.

@shaboozey released an album this week that is really good. I’m a co-writer on the single featuring @noahcyrus called ‘My Fault’. The reception of this album has been staggering. Our single was featured in The NY Times, Rolling Stone, and Pitchfork. At some point yesterday ‘Shaboozey Album’ was literally the #1 trending topic on Twitter. Spotify’s New Music Friday. #1 Country Album on Apple Music. I’ve been releasing music for 2 decades and never been a part of anything close to the cultural impact this album is gonna have. It’s surreal and cool. I’m proud of Boozey and @nevinwastaken . Very grateful to have been involved. I met Shaboozey in DC in 2016 for like 30 seconds. A year later he showed up to my studio in Hollywood with a black leather briefcase for some reason and recorded this track called Posies in like 20 minutes that blew my face off with raw emotion and quirky wordplay. He was having trouble w his lady at the time and didn’t have anywhere to go so I let him crash on the couch of my studio. I think he stayed up all night recording by himself and made like 7 songs. I met Nevin around the same time. He sent me a random cold email about the band I was playing in back then called Champagne Fever. We corresponded a bit. Seemed like a smart talented dude. He was getting ready to go to Med School but wanted to take a shot at music. I ended up inviting him to come stay on my couch in LA for 10 days. Always wondered if I’d done my man a bad turn by derailing med school but it’s looking up. I introduced Boozey and Nevin somewhere in there and the two have made some of the coolest music together I’ve ever heard. This album is just the latest iteration of their epic synergy. The three of us made some cool stuff together as well. One of those songs turned into “My Fault” that came out last week. I feel grateful to have been involved in some cool shit. Lucky to have cool people like Davis and Neil supporting my music journey for so many years. I think it’s pretty common to want to be a part of something that feels special to lots of people and I think this album could turn out to be that and it’s cool I had a minor part in its creation.

Jude is 2 years old today. We saw some turtles, played with trucks, and did a slide. Later, there will be chocolate cake. Jude is charming, brave, and loud. I’m proud of Jude and proud of his mom. This year we are all going to practice getting better together at sharing, communication, and patience. Happy Birthday, Jude.
