A milestone moment for Common Ground East Perth! The first residents have now begun moving into their new homes, marking an important step in Western Australia’s efforts to end chronic homelessness. Working with the Department of Communities, we have been proud to lead our dedicated team on this project, which provides permanent supportive housing alongside health, wellbeing and community services. Developed through extensive consultation with people with lived experience and the housing sector, the design focuses on dignity, safety, autonomy and connection. Common Ground is more than housing. For many residents it will be a place to rebuild, reconnect and establish long-term stability. Gresley Abas is honoured to have contributed to this important project and we look forward to seeing the community that grows here. #architecture #housingfirst #commonground #socialhousing Photo Credit: Robert Frith, Acorn Photo

A new gateway to John Forrest National Park! Our Glen Brook pedestrian bridge is now complete, guiding visitors from the new arrival carpark into the heart of Western Australia’s oldest national park. Rising lightly above the valley floor, the bridge and elevated walkway weave through the bushland, minimising impact while offering a universally accessible path through the landscape. Constructed from weathered steel and recycled timber, the structure is designed to quietly blend into its surroundings over time. This milestone marks the first step in the broader redevelopment of the park for DBCA, with the new Park Hub and visitor facilities to follow. #johnforrestnationalpark #pertharchitecture #publicarchitecture #australianarchitecture #landscape

Design Week approaches quickly! This year Jonathan will be speaking at @perthdesignweek Interior Design Case Studies: From Intent to Outcome event. The session brings together three Western Australian design practices to explore what happens between design intent and realised outcome, and the decisions, constraints and trade-offs that shape projects along the way. 📍 Liberty Theatre, Barrack Street 📅 Wednesday 25 March, 5pm Tickets via the @perthdesignweek link in bio.

The Bridge is landing! A new weathered-steel bridge is coming to John Forrest National Park. Connecting the new carpark with the Park Centre, this staged approach will ensure the National Park remains open and is ready for the next exciting stage. We're excited to see some great views of the valley soon.

Monday night our studio hosted a packed DI Provocation event on Density Done Well in support of the Density Done Well exhibition in Central Park. A big thank you to everyone who joined the discussion and to Ross Donaldson, WA chapter AIA President - and to Jimmy Thompson (MJA Studio), Greg Ewart (Hillam Architects), and Jonathan Lake for sharing ideas and experiences around how architects can drive better housing outcomes through alternative practice models. This is a subject close to our hearts at Gresley Abas. It was energising to see so much curiosity and optimism for tackling housing challenges together. Here’s to density — done really well. We encourage a visit to the Central Park lobby to view the exhibition before the 10th #DensityDoneWell #SustainableHousing #SocialHousing #AffordableHousing #GresleyAbas #ArchitectureWA #DIProvocation #AustralianInstituteofArchitects

Libby Guj has been part of the Gresley Abas crew for a few years now, and we’ve been all the better for it! She brings serious experience, a sharp eye, and a deep care for community, art and architecture to everything she does. As a leader in our Future Visioning team, Libby helps shape what’s next—always with heart and wisdom. We’re excited she’ll be joining the upcoming Parlour Autumn Salon, chatting with well-known architect and urban planner Sharni Howe about life, work, and all the bits in between. Curated by @suzannehuntarchitect , it’s set to be a thoughtful, honest and insightful evening. It's been a great @perthdesignweek at Gresley Abas. Yesterday, Phil was delighted to join a thoughtful panel of BCorp partners to explore how design can drive meaningful social impact. From swapping stories to unpacking practice, it was a great chance to reflect on the ways we work — and to learn from others doing purpose-led design across different contexts. Thanks to @b.local.perth for curating such a considered and energising conversation. #PerthDesignWeek #GresleyAbas #PurposeEconomy #BCorp

Last night, Jonathan and Erica shared their experience and insights at Beyond the Brief: Designing Together for Impact, part of this year’s Perth Design Week. It was a fantastic evening of conversation and connection — exploring the value of authentic collaboration between designers and social organisations. Our big thanks to ThirdStory and Anthologie for hosting and curating such a thoughtful and energising event. Photos: courtesy of ThirdStory

Another Gresley Abas Design Week Event! Phil has been invited to discuss next-generation design as part of Perth Design Week and B Corp Month. As a certified B Corp, we’re focused on embedding social and environmental impact into every aspect of our practice—we are committed to pursuing and shaping projects that are responsive, ethical, and grounded in real-world outcomes. Design, for us, is a tool for systems change. It’s how we challenge conventions, shift value structures, and build more equitable futures. It would be great to see you there on Wednesday.
