WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN is a book I wrote when my oldest daughter (now age 5) was very young. We often read Margaret Wise Brown and Eric Carle and Ruth Krauss and I’d sing her songs to help her fall asleep. We still do all of those things but we did it back then, too. One night as I was rocking her to sleep, the first line of this book fluttered across my mind: “Butterfly, butterfly, where do you go? Where do you go when the sun goes down?” The rest came soon and after taking a few years to write and draw Lucky Duck, Earl and Worm and a few others, I turned my attention back to “Sun”. I drew the art analog in layers of ink, like a screenprint; so one drawing for blue, one for yellow, and when they overlap they make green, etc. They also make all that lovely “chatter” where they don’t line up at all. It will be published in April by @knopfyoungreaders and I hope you will read it! Read it with someone you love 💛✌️🙏 Thank you, GP

Hi friends, it’s me, Greg Pizzoli. I have been itching to document and write more about my studio practice, and for me personally, Instagram has lost some luster. So here I am! Trying something out. My idea with this new digital space is to answer questions about writing stories and drawing pictures. I will also share some process stuff when it feels like it makes sense, and maybe talk a bit about some of the books, toys and other things I have in my studio. I’m shooting for once a week. TEN YEARS! My picture book GOOD NIGHT OWL just had a birthday. This is a book I wrote while on the road reading to kids, and as I write this post, I’m on the road (safely in my hotel) as I gear up for a few days of reading to kids. SQUEEK!
