And this show, our last of the year and a group show for the first time this year, weaves together inspired works that conjure feelings of quiet, beauty, reflection, and stillness amidst the cold, dark, but often vividly beautiful landscape of winter. Our artists have been invited to lean into these poetic qualities through color and texture and capture moments of light and warmth lying beneath the surface…. Thus, we hope you will join us this Saturday, December 6th from 5 to 8 PM to meet the artists and enjoy some festive cheer amongst all of the beauty that winter has to offer. When I was a little kid my mother told me I could draw. It was something I liked to do. I liked to draw cartoons, people, cars, trees, dogs... It didn’t matter what it was, or how far flung my young imagination could go. My mother showed my drawings to the ladies in her bridge club. The high school art teacher, Mrs. Fredericks, played bridge. My mother thought she could recognize real talent. My mother told me things happen for a reason. My father was concerned that drawing could be a real job. He insisted I major in commercial Illustration. I wanted to paint. He died my first year in Art School. I changed my major to painting. I have painted ever since. I always made a place to work– a studio with tables, easels, brushes, paints and palette at the ready. If inspiration struck, I wanted to be prepared. Painting is a practice. I do it most every day, inspired or not. When I’m lucky, the muse shows up. That’s the deal. My mother told me I could draw and that things happen for a reason. I believed her.
