When I made my first jacket, it was a mess. I had only sewn paper clothes, which were not made to be worn... I used the stained, torn dropcloth from the floor of my studio, and it was a whole new world... my stitches were crooked, the sleeves were on the wrong side, I measured the wrong seam allowance... and couldn't even get it on when I first tried...
I kept working on it, repairing, adding fabric, stitching over mistakes... and when it was done... it not only fit, it
was still a mess, but a beautiful mess...perfectly imperfect.
It was mine. I wore it as if it was the most beautiful thing ever, with the same joy as if it had been made on Saville Row.
