After 40 thrilling years of doing business in Seattle’s Pioneer Square, we at the Greg Kucera Gallery are celebrating by staying in business. We are embracing our past, our present, and our future by continuing to represent and exhibit some of the finest of contemporary artists. The pleasure found in our business is in encouraging the passionate obsessions of our collectors in response to the intelligence and creativity of our artists. We are staying the course of our original mission. For this exhibition, we have invited our represented artists to exhibit pairs of works; one early, and one recent. These curated juxtapositions will reveal aspects of their creative histories — showing where they have been in contrast to where they are now — both within their career and through their partnership with the gallery. Join us and celebrate the reception tonight during Pioneer Square’s First Thursday Art Walk from 6-8pm. Something Old, Something New: 40th Anniversary Exhibition, October 5 - 28, 2023 With Work By: Humaira Abid, Juventino Aranda, Ross Palmer Beecher, Loretta Pettway Bennett, Gregory Blackstock, Cris Bruch, John Buck, Deborah Butterfield, Mark Calderon, Drie Chapek, Michael Dailey, Jack Daws, Chris Engman, Claudia Fitch, Jane Hammond, Michael Knutson, Margie Livingston, Norman Lundin, Sherry Markovitz, Peter Millett, Mark Newport, Tim Roda, Roger Shimomura, Jeffrey Simmons, Susan Skilling, SuttonBeresCuller, Whiting Tennis, Lynne Woods Turner, Joey Veltkamp, Darren Waterston, Dan Webb, Alice Wheeler, Anthony White, Ed Wicklander and Claude Zervas #gregkuceragallery #gkg #somethingnewsomethingold #40thanniversary #exhibition #pnw #pnwartists

Tomorrow is the last day to see Norman Lundin’s, ‘Landscapes, Mostly, Other Things Too.’ Stop by the gallery during regular viewing hours (10:30am–5:30pm) to experience this show before it comes to a close, a must-see! “There’s something both hyper-real and mysterious about his quiet interior spaces, where a milk carton, coffee pot, Windex bottle or piece of blue painter’s tape seems to vibrate with life amid gray walls.” –Brangien Davis for Cascade PBS #normanlundin #landscapesmostlyotherthingstoo #gkg #gregkuceragallery

This is the final week of Norman Lundin’s current exhibition, and we’ve recently added a brand new work by the artist to the presentation. Since the opening of the show, Lundin has been working toward completing a painting that has viewers contemplating the question of “dusk or dawn,” and it is now on view in the gallery! This stunning landscape alone is worth another visit. Stop by to experience this new work alongside the many contemplative paintings included in this remarkable exhibition of observation, memory, and terrain. Norman Lundin’s ‘Landscapes, Mostly, Other Things Too,’ is on view through Saturday, May 16, 2026. Today we are wishing a very Happy Birthday to Peter Millett! Peter’s joyful presence, warmth, and approachable nature are rare qualities, and he has a remarkable ability to light up every room he enters. For more than four decades, he has developed a distinct visual language rooted in geometry, architecture, memory, and material. Since settling in Seattle in the early 1970s, his practice has been shaped by observation and a deep engagement with both natural and built environments. Working primarily with painted wood and steel, Millett creates forms that feel simultaneously monumental and intimate. Through deceptively simple shapes, repeated lines, and layered planes, his work explores rhythm, balance, transparency, and the mystery hidden within everyday forms. Like Peter himself, his sculptures carry a warmth and sensitivity that are unmistakably his own. Happy Birthday, Peter! #petermillett #gregkuceragallery

Today we are wishing a very Happy Birthday to the extraordinary Deborah Butterfield, whose sculptural practice has redefined the language of equine sculpture for more than five decades. Known for her iconic horse forms constructed from driftwood, salvaged wood, scrap metal, and cast bronze, Butterfield transforms found materials into works that are both powerful and deeply intimate. With a career spanning internationally acclaimed exhibitions, major museum collections, and decades of influence within contemporary sculpture, Butterfield’s work masterfully balances the fragile and the monumental. Her horses embody gesture, memory, stillness, and presence through remarkable attention to line, weight, and texture. And through her unmistakable visual language, Deborah continues to remind viewers and artists alike that, through ambition and intention, even the most ordinary materials can become something extraordinary, and that nearly anything is possible. Happy Birthday Deborah! #deborahbutterfield #gregkuceragallery

Today we are wishing a wonderful and very Happy Birthday to Michael Knutson! With works that transport viewers into states of heightened sensitivity, Knutson creates kaleidoscopic fields of color that are expansive and intimate, and feel both meditative and electric. Through unexpected repetition and controlled asymmetry, his compositions open up into spaces that pulse, shift, and unfold with each glance. Michael’s practice delicately balances geometry and abstraction, reminding us that structure and spontaneity are not always opposites, but collaborators. Thank you, Michael, for creating work that expands how we see, feel, and move through color, Happy Birthday! #michaelknutson #gregkuceragallery #gkg

While driving countless miles across North America in the 1960s, a particular moment caught Norman Lundin by surprise. In that instant, he thought, “I want to paint this.” Such experiences have stayed with him, joining a lifetime of observed fields, mountain ranges, open vistas, and shorelines. These moments continue to inform his work as he paints from memory. Today we are wishing a very happy birthday to the beautifully meticulous Humaira Abid. “As an artist, I feel that I have a responsibility to educate the society in which I live, and to be a voice.”— @humaira_atelierh Through exquisitely carved wood and the quiet precision of miniature painting, Abid renders absence with striking clarity, transforming familiar objects into vessels of memory, displacement, and survival. Her work reminds us that beauty can carry immense weight, seductive at first glance, yet deeply unsettling in what it reveals about the fragility of home and the cost of life and loss. Humaira’s brilliance and grace are something rare. She is an artist committed to revealing truths that are far too often buried, and gives voice to people and experiences that are frequently censored or silenced. We are grateful for the way she translates complex and unseen realities into forms that stay with us long after we encounter them. Wishing you a wonderful year ahead, Humaira! #humairaabid #gkg #gregkuceragallery
