I read some wise words the other day from a friend a few steps ahead of me on this mid-life ride of professional fiddling, and it's so true: "For those worried about getting old, forget it, you get wiser and know more stuff and can pull off bigger and better things. You know more people and therefore there's more help to make your dreams a reality. You have experience on your side, you can think faster on your feet and make better decisions, but most importantly you can assemble your team, your tribe." My final gigs for this year will be with my dear friend tabla player Bobby Singh at the Woodford Folk Festival!
Bobby Singh and Friends features a brilliant band of pianist Zela Margossian, guitarist Jeff Lang, violist Shenzo Gregorio, percussionist Greg Sheehan, drummer Ben Walsh, and didgeribone player Tjupurru.
We have recently released an album âSutradhaarâ which literally means âstring-holderâ (but is colloquially a ânarratorâ or âstage managerâ). The album features compositions of tabla maestro Aneesh Pradhan, which I arranged for this group of incredible musicians with invaluable help from Bobby.
