The Greenhouse Ensemble Theater presents Greenwood: The Musical on the Upper West Side
Born from the singular creative world of Ira Karp, Greenwood: The Musical is a vibrant blend of theater, music, puppetry, and handmade wonder—telling the story of a hilltop farm and its colorful inhabitants in a voice that is quirky, joyful, and entirely its own.
Written and directed by Ira Karp, a teenage artist with Down syndrome, the piece draws inspiration from nursery rhymes, Broadway musicals, traditional folk songs, pop hits, and the radical handmade spirit of contemporary puppet theater.
Performed by artists from Boxcutter Collective, and supported by artists with deep roots in Bread and Puppet Theater, Greenwood comes to life through a team with a collective 150 years of puppeteering experience—bringing humor, heart, and a wildly original theatrical vision to NYC audiences.

THIS SATURDAY 4/25:
“Greenwood: The Musical”
Sat April 25th • 7 PM St. Michael’s Church (225 West 99th Street, NY, NY)
The Greenhouse Ensemble brings Greenwood: The Musical to their incredible space on Upper West Side. "Greenwood: The Musical" is a show that springs from the imagination of director and writer Ira Karp, a teenager with Down syndrome. “Greenwood” is the name of a farm on top of a hill, and it tells the story of its colorful inhabitants. Cows are milked, cheese is made, babies are born, holidays are celebrated, ambulances rescue people, and celebrities pop in for visits. It’s a musical soap opera that’s both mundane and magical—all told in Ira’s quirky, exuberant voice.
(Some Boxcutters are in it, and those that aren’t have seen it and love it!
