It’s been a long time in the making, but improvement works along the river path at Comfortable Place start next week.
📍 The path between the Bath Army Reserve Centre and Comfortable Place (shown in red on the map) will be temporarily closed from 18 May to 26 June.
🚶 Walkers will be guided along the green diversion route
♿ Wheelers will be guided along the blue diversion route
Please follow diversion signs and contractor guidance to help keep everyone safe.
These works are part of the Bath River Line project and will include a new accessible ramp and steps, new bench, trees and pollinator planting.
Thank you for your patience and understanding — we’re really looking forward to seeing the final result 💚

The Bath River Line team are creating a new mural at Windsor Bridge, inspired by the River Avon and stories from the public, that's where you come in!
The artwork will feature a shared River Custodian - they need your memories, ideas and feelings about the river to help shape the design and story of the new mural.
The survey only takes a few minutes:

It’s Earth Day 2026, and this year’s theme is Our Power, Our Planet. The theme highlights the power of collective action, with businesses, communities and individuals coming together to drive positive change.
Across Bath and North East Somerset, there is a huge amount of inspiring climate and nature action already happening. This was evident at the BANES CANN Forum in November 2025, an event which brought together people from more than 70 community groups and businesses across the district to discuss the resources, knowledge and connections needed to take action for climate & nature. On their website, @Climatehuborguk have a list of groups with a shared interest in our community, our environment, and our planet where you can learn more about the work they are doing.
To mark Earth Day, our libraries team have created an Earth Day Book List. The list includes practical guides and helpful tips for all ages on how to get involved in a way that works for you, alongside a selection of inspirational biographies. You can find the link in our bio. As well as building knowledge, using our libraries instead of buying books new is a great way to reduce your consumption. We have three libraries in Bath and North East Somerset which are free to join and provide access to physical and digital collections and more. Find out more on our council webpages.
We are also currently developing an updated Climate and Nature Strategy, which will shape our approach to tackling the climate and ecological emergencies in Bath and North East Somerset.
Tackling the ecological emergency is one of our key priorities and our Corporate Strategy sets an ambition to ‘lead the UK in climate and nature action’.
Our Biodiversity Report for 2021 to 2025 summarises the policies and actions that we have carried out to conserve and enhance biodiversity, as required by the enhanced Biodiversity Duty introduced under the Environment Act 2021.
Search 'bathnes biodiversity report' to find the report online.

Fair, bold, and community-led climate and nature action is expanding across the West of England.
Backed by the National Lottery Community Fund, six new organisations have joined Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership’s Community Climate & Nature Action Project.
A huge congratulations to Bath MIND, Twerton & Whiteway Community Network, Clevedon YMCA, Hambrook Sports Club, Pill Community Foundation, and South Gloucestershire Race Equality Network.
Each organisation will receive £30,000 funding, alongside workshops, peer mentoring, and resources to co-develop a climate and nature action plan – with, by, and for the people they serve. This is key to building a region that is not only greener, but fairer.
This next project phase comes after much success in Bristol – where 17 communities have already benefited from the programme, leading to the creation of local jobs, improved green spaces, skills training programmes, carbon savings, and more.

This summer, the Bath River Line is making the Norfolk Crescent area more welcoming and better connected to the river path.
To do this:
🌳 Six trees have been removed — this is to make space for better, more accessible steps and for a new seating nook (oppisite BRAC café).
A tree specialist assessed each tree, looking at quality, life expectancy and value to the landscape. The new steps have been carefully positioned to protect healthier trees nearby
🐦 All tree work is timed to avoid the bird‑nesting season so we reduce disturbance to wildlife.
💚 Across the Bath River Line, we’re working hard to protect, improve and plant as much vegetation as possible. Thanks for your understanding while these improvements take place.
