Born and raised in DakLak Province- the capital of coffee in Vietnam, we perceive that coffee product is the essential source of living of farmers here. Believing in the potential of Vietnamese Robusta, we're on a mission to refine its quality through proper processing methods. Our team includes Will Nguyen, Tony Hoang, Tami Nguyen, and Toan Duong. Together with our customers and partners, we make robusta specialty and help kids in need. #greatcherry #specialtyrobusta #finerobusta #robusta

WHY ARE MOST “SẺ” ROBUSTA TREES IN VIETNAM TODAY FROM THE 80s - 90s? 1. Sẻ was one of the first Robusta varieties planted in Vietnam. In 1982, Vietnam expanded Robusta farming in the Central Highlands and Southeast regions because Robusta grows well in hot, humid climates and is more resistant to diseases like coffee leaf rust. At that time, there were no TR4, TR9 or Xanh Lun varieties yet. Farmers mainly planted the original Robusta brought from Java, Indonesia - what we now call “Sẻ” Robusta. 2. Later, high-yield varieties became more popular. New varieties like TR4, TR9, and TRS1 produced much higher yields and were more resistant to pests and diseases. From the late 1990s, many farmers replaced Se trees with these newer varieties. However, many people believe these high-yield varieties lost some of the bold and intense character of old Se Robusta. Because of their high yield, they are mostly grown for large-scale commercial and instant coffee production. 3. As a result, most Sẻ trees today are already 30–40 years old. Very few farmers still plant them because the yield is too low. In fact, almost nobody even sells Sẻ seedlings anymore. That is why Se Robusta has become rare in the specialty coffee community today. If you are a roaster looking for this type of coffee, feel free to leave a message for the Great Cherry team. #specialtycoffee #robusta #canephora

Last week, we cupped Robusta Honey samples from Cư M’gar. Before buying any lot, we always: -Take samples - Cup them - Compare with existing lots The goal is to understand the quality and place it in the right segment. We don’t sell by lot. We sell by product segment. And we work to keep: - Consistent quality - Stable supply all year round Our 8 main segments: - Robusta Clean - Eco 81 - Eco 90 - Natural 95 - Honey 97 - Honey SMOOTH - Anaerobic Honey - Anaerobic Natural Its quite simple: You choose the segment, and we keep it consistent. #GreatCherryRobusta #VietnamRobusta #CoffeeCupping #RobustaDifferently

Though not quite fully wrapped, we are at a point where we can celebrate what has shaped up to be an excellent second season in Vietnam. Catastrophic rains pummeled much of the country at the start of the season, followed thankfully by a cool and dry period as the region recovered. And though no coffee-specific silver lining can make up for the havoc and hardship wreaked by the rains, these circumstances did lead to a greater-than-usual concentration of fully ripe picking and stronger cherry uniformity, pushing the quality ceiling high from the start and situating producers to take advantage of the favorable processing conditions that followed. Zooming into our orbit, we could not be happier with our partners @zanyacoffee , @greatcherry.robusta , and @locrung_naturegift . Each brings a different strength to the table, and altogether they add up to what we are confident will be a brilliant import: expectation-obliterating Robusta from Great Cherry, clean sweet Arabica from Zanya, and attention-grabbing experimental Arabica processing from Loc Rung. A little later on, we’ll have more to say about Liberica, too — but for now, Robusta and Arabica from these three partners are steering the ship. To learn more about our mindset toward Vietnam and how each of these partners has exceeded even our lofty expectations, head to our link in bio for the full Harvest Update 🤓

The robusta harvest is shaping up in Cư M'gar, Đắk Lắk, Vietnam. FDI coffee companies expect a crop about 10–15% larger than last year, due to more land planted with high-yield robusta varieties such as Xanh Lùn and Cà Dây. These trees, planted 2–3 years ago, are now starting production. If this's true, it is good news for farmers, who will see higher yields at today’s relatively strong prices. It is also positive for specialty producers, who may benefit from potentially lower cherry prices compared to last year. Atm, the domestic green coffee price is quite similar to the London market price.

The Ê Đê people of Vietnam’s Central Highlands play a central role in growing distinctive Robusta—working with old lines, speaking an Austronesian language, and living a matrilineal tradition. Their longhouses stretch beside the coffee fields, reminding us of the diversity in Vietnam’s Robusta story. “Ro Ê Đê” brings that story forward. “Ro” stands for old Robusta lines—before the 1980s boom. “Ê Đê” honors the people producing it. Lam—the guy in the middle of the last photo—produced this Anaerobic Honey lot. It reflects @greatcherry.robusta ’s strong local partnerships and pays tribute to the culture behind the cup. Delicious - just order your sample and try it yourself! 🍯💫🇻🇳 #cumpaofficial #robustaorigin #edevietnam #beyondarabica #coffeeandculture #anaerobichoney

cumpa community lots – quality, connection, scale and impact. 🌍🤝 They are important drivers of specialty coffee – in the origin, in the destination, and in cumpa's portfolio. Therefore, we dedicate them special attention. 🔍❤️ Together with our origin partners, we have created senseful names and identities for these lots – words that help immerse in the producers' world through complex storytelling. Since 2023, we have been cooperating with designer @anna.bitzer to visualize these identities on the coffee bags.🎨 Additionally, we created short poem-alike texts that explain our thoughts behind our cumpa community lots. Stay tuned as we continue explaining the community lots! #cumpaofficial #communitylots #specialtycoffee #originmatters
