Hi I’m doing a thing! It’s been awhile since I’ve exhibited new work and I’m excited for this show, developed in collaboration with lovely local artists and good friends @yvonne.vanderkooi & @anneramsden1
Each of us has been developing projects about local ecology and the connections between humans & landscape, and I think it’s created a really interesting and thoughtful exhibition of all new work. I’ll be showing pieces about my obsession with the leaf-cutter bees who visit my yard- please come check it out if you’re in town!
Finally getting around to making this work public. *Chimes for the South End* is an interactive sound sculpture made for the Nanaimo Temporary Public Art program, installed in my neighbourhood park in August 2024. Unfortunately it was vandalized by a group of young kids in October 2024, and is still being rebuilt. ------------ This project was several years & many prototypes in the making, and it was a total joy to work with many people in my community towards its creation. In particular @cou.sands of @tuningfine , whose knowledge of instrument construction and of music & sound was what brought this work out of the inside my brain and into the world. And who let me take up space & time in her studio. Also thanks to @jaimebrett & @one_eyed_ali at the City of Nanaimo, and to @unlearnindustries for figuring out the plinth construction.
