It was great to be in North Bay today with @vicfedeli to announce a $4.5 million investment, through the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative, to support 60 new affordable homes for Indigenous households on Brookes Street. This is about giving more people a safe and stable place to call home and building stronger communities. That’s how we #protectontario. . . . #onpoli #northbay #housing #ontario

As part of our plan to protect Ontario and keep dangerous offenders behind bars, our government is increasing adult correctional capacity by adding more than 2,500 permanent jail beds across the province. This expansion will support the hiring of 700+ new correctional staff and help to ensure violent offenders stay off our streets and behind bars where they belong. HST relief on new homes is now law. Ontario families can save up to $130,000 on the purchase of a new home valued up to $1M. For first-time buyers, young families and hardworking people in Parry Sound-Muskoka and across Ontario, this is real relief at a time when every dollar matters. It’s about keeping home ownership within reach and protecting that dream for the next generation.

Please see my statement on Canadore College’s decision to cease operations at its Parry Sound campus once currently enrolled students have completed their programs. *STATEMENT* "Canadore College's decision to close its Parry Sound campus is deeply disappointing. My thoughts are with the students, employees, and families affected by this decision. A college is more than a place of learning. It is an employer, a community partner, and an important part of the local economy. I am pleased to hear that the college will continue to teach at the West Parry Sound campus until all currently enrolled students have completed their programs. Repeated changes by the federal government to the international student permit system have created significant instability and uncertainty across Canada’s postsecondary sector. Institutions throughout Ontario, including Canadore College, have been forced to make difficult decisions as they work to adapt to the federal government's shifting policy environment and the resulting decrease in enrollment. Our government recognizes the seriousness of these challenges. That is why we have stepped up with the largest investment in postsecondary education in Ontario’s history. In February, we announced a new long-term funding model that will provide an additional $6.4 billion to Ontario’s colleges, universities, and Indigenous Institutes, increasing annual operating funding from $5 billion to $7 billion starting this fall. That represents a 30 per cent increase and the highest level of operating funding in the province’s history. I will continue working with Canadore College, local partners, and the community to support affected students, families, employees, and the broader Parry Sound economy. While this is difficult news, I remain committed to ensuring our community’s voice is heard and that we continue fighting for access to education, training, and opportunity close to home." - MPP Graydon Smith

Great to sit down with my municipal friends from the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus today at #QueensPark. We had a productive conversation about infrastructure, growth and how we continue working together to create new opportunities and keep Eastern Ontario strong for the future. Strong municipalities mean strong communities and that’s how we continue to #protectontario. . . #eowc #onpoli #ontario
