I learned some fun facts about this pumice dune the morning after this flight took place. A local naturalist revealed to me that a few feet below the surface, there remains ice from the last glacial period +10,000 years ago and that Pika actually live underground there. Sadly, last year’s winter mysteriously turned the pine trees brown in that part of the valley, perhaps from early frosting and dense fog. Hopefully they bounce back🌲#speedflying
