The story in the comic is a short sci-fi story that gives insight into what the future can look like. It tackles the themes of climate anxiety and rewilding. The plot of the story revolves around a scientist in the present who has built a time machine in an attempt to travel to the future to find the solutions to climate change. He’s also a character in distraught as he’s anxious and worried that humanity doesn’t act in time to tackle climate change. As he travels to the future he opens his eyes to find a beautiful, natural landscape but quickly becomes overwhelmed as the location is where his lab is, which leads him to question if humanity survived. As he hears a voice from behind he turns round and is met with himself from the future. He gets to ask the future version of himself about what happened and how was humanity able to bring this landscape back to life. The answer is finding a balance and giving land back to nature to rewild. As the scientist gets back on the time machine the future version of himself gives him one last message of hope, that its a long road ahead but the future is bright. #illustration #design #graphicdesign #comic #comicart #graphicnovel #communicationdesign #graysschoolofart

Call of the Wild is an anthology comic telling stories of a future where humanity acted in time to tackle climate and each story paints a picture of what a sustainable future would look like. The premise of this comic series would be to focus on a particular topic or theme with the stories presenting various viewpoints. For this project I designed the front and rear covers, 2 editorial page layouts and an 8 page short story of a tackling the theme of climate anxiety. This comic is aimed at teens and above with the goal of educating, raising awareness and inspiring the reader to actively engage in climate action. For the Premiere issue the focus is on the theme of rewilding, one of the most important and often slept on areas of the general climate discussion. The goal was to spotlight how vital our active engagement with rewilding is. That by allowing nature to be restored we can bring back lost ecosystems, naturally capture carbon, as well as providing a potential resurgence in rural economies. Rewilding allows us to preserve and reshape the countryside, redefining our relationship with the nature world. #illustration #design #graphicdesign #comic #comicart #graphicnovel #communicationdesign #graysschoolofart
