Crocus and Hermes Myth One version of the story tells of the mortal youth named Crocus being a lover of the Messenger God Hermes. The lovers were said to be undertaking athletic pursuits when a discus thrown by Hermes hit Crocus upon the head, mortally wounding him. The grief-stricken Hermes transformed his lover into a spring flower (saffron). Three drops of blood, that had fallen from the head of Crocus, became the stigmata of the flower. A final project for a vector illustration course. I represented Bastet, the goddess of cats, the sun, of the East, of fire, of love, intoxication, music and dancing, joy, celebration, fertility, secrets, magic, and sex. I had a lot of fun illustrating the feline species found in ancient Egypt, such as the Egyptian Mau, Serval cat, Sand cat and Abyssinian cat.
