One curtain. Infinite backgrounds. 🌈
Meet the 𝐜𝐲𝐜 — short for cyclorama. It's the big white curtain at the back of our stage, and on its own, it doesn't look like much. But add light? Suddenly, you've got a sunset, a midnight sky, or anything in between.
No set change required. Just light. ✨

The day after Mother’s Day, we’re looking back to 1954 in Santa Barbara when the community was invited to nominate a “Mother of the Year,” honoring women across the city for the ways they supported and strengthened their families and community 💝💐
Nominations were sent to local radio and TV stations, and the selected honoree was celebrated on the stage of The Granada Theatre, where she was recognized by the community. That year, Mrs. Francis McGowan was among those honored, noted not only for her role as a mother but also for her care in raising orphaned mockingbirds.
A reminder that the spirit of Mother’s Day extends beyond a single day, into the everyday acts of care that shape a community ✨
Tag or share a mother in your community who stands out to you 🙌

There is a reason a performance at The Granada Theatre lingers long after the final bow.
Studies of live audiences have found that something called neural synchrony can occur, where people in the same space begin to emotionally align during a performance. It is one of the ways live theatre creates a shared experience that simply cannot be replicated at home.
It is connection, happening in real time.

Not all heroes are center stage. 🎭
Every single curtain at The Granada has a name and a job. The rows lining the sides of the stage are called 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐬 — they keep backstage hidden from view. The ones stretching across the top are 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬, framing the stage like a picture.
All of them? 𝘚𝘰𝘧𝘵 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘴. Can you guess how many live on our stage? Drop your guess below. 👇

In 1946, during the engagement of 𝘊𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢 𝘑𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴 starring Joan Leslie, The Granada Theatre hosted a playful “Cinderella” search for its patrons.
A glass slipper was displayed in the foyer, and women over 18 were invited to try it on. The guest whose foot fit the slipper was crowned “Cinderella” and received a brand-new outfit, which was even displayed at the theatre for audiences to see 👗🐭
