People around the world are waking up to the dangers of Big Tech corporate power.
The critique towards corporate-led digitalisation and demands for greater regulation are growing. But tech companies use opaque tools, such as trade deals, to block legislation that could harm their interests. In order to reign in their growing power over our food systems, it is crucial to expose what is happening behind the scenes and for movements to converge/e/7380

Asia's farmlands are becoming a major target for carbon credit projects. The region already produces more than half of global carbon credits. By 2030, Asian countries is expected to generate nearly US$10 billion worth of carbon credits annually.
Some projects displace communities for tree plantations while others lock them into decades-long contracts that dictate farming practices -pushing farmers to give up control of their land for uncertain profits /e/7378

Over generations, African farmers have developed productive farming systems that do not require chemical fertilisers. In the face of rising fertiliser prices caused by war on Iran and climate crisis, sustainable farming practices based on agroecology offer the most promising alternative to chemical inputs. /e/7375
Building strategies and convening with movements was at the heart of GRAIN’s work in 2025. From the People’s Climate Summit in Brazil to the 3rd Nyéléni Global Forum in Sri Lanka -along with many smaller but important gatherings with key allies- each event responded to pressing issues and brought forward solutions from the food sovereignty movement. In this year’s Highlights report, we share key takeaways from these and other processes.
We share this all in hopes that it informs and inspires actions from around the world. We also encourage you to forward this message to a friend, post it on social media and share GRAIN’s work with anyone who might be interested. Together we can keep strengthening food sovereignty. /e/7372

The potential benefits of public food programmes are often stifled by the way they are designed and implemented. Top-down, centralised programmes can lead to corruption and favour the powerful agri-food companies.
To unlock the true potential of public food programmes, we must build on existing local food networks–from small-scale producers, to informal food vendors, to consumers.
In this ‘Supermarket watch’ edition, we look at the challenges faced by public food programmes that underline the importance of decentralisation and diversity. Swipe to see what's in this issue /e/7369

Governments are rushing to launch an international carbon credit market. And everyone at the top is happy:
💰 Big polluters want to avoid cutting emissions
💰 Global South governments hope for new revenues
💰 And carbon offset cowboys need a veneer of "integrity" for their scandal-plagued projects
