Our family said goodbye to our sweet girl Betty yesterday. We had 15 years of unbridled joy, raucous playtime, wiggly tail wags, and the gentlest kisses, and I’ll never know another like her. Though my heart is broken now, I know there’s a lifetime of wonderful memories with her to always keep me smiling.

Cortney’s curation note about Grace & Derek:
While they may not have started their musical journeys together, they are able to blend their sensibilities into a beautiful, cohesive show! Grace’s songwriting is personal introspection, but because of how personal her writing is, it’s accessible and relatable on a deep level for anyone who feels deeply and observes humanity. Not only are her words poetic, but her melodies and hooks are infectious to the point that you don’t immediately realize the depth of her writing because the music is so catchy.
Derek is a masterful guitarist and songwriter, and you can feel his passion for the craft in everything he works on. Whether it be his own music or working as a vessel to convey other’s visions. Derek’s artistry is akin to musicians of old, it’s very clear he pays homage to and respects his influences. Derek’s sound, to me, has a lot of Britpop/rock influences that translate well with his American upbringing and perspective in his work. A student of music, Derek shines when he can cut loose on his guitar while belting out anthemic-level choruses that, once heard, can’t ever be forgotten by audiences.

Still in slight disbelief that I got to meet my forever number one artist @rufuswainwright today at @grimeys before his @citywinerynsh shows. A short encounter, but unforgettable. 🤩
The Mouthhole is the most special, creative, wild, wonderful, and important place ever. Everyone I’ve met there has left an indelible mark on me in the best possible way, and I am immeasurably lucky to have experienced the truly free and safe creative space that Michael, Travis, and Zac have cultivated all these years.
Playing my own music on stage has always been scary to me as my own harshest critic, but I couldn’t have found a better place to grow and evolve and shed some of that fear than on that basement stage in front of the kindest, least judgmental people imaginable, and I will be so grateful for that as long as I live.
It lent us its magic one last time for Austin and Ziona’s beautiful wedding celebration, and suffice it to say I will be beaming with happiness from this weekend for a long, long time. The Mouthhole FOREVER 🩷
