Season 5 resumes now! Soon after we released “All We Are” by Warlock last year, @crhodes86 recommended this track among others as a follow up.
He’d wanted to cover this one forever so why not grant that wish? Given he was going to be playing the Lemmy role in this episode we racked our brains on who would do guitars and Curtis eventually got @gra_ham62 in the mix. Spent my birthday watching the one and only @brasscamel last Saturday! I still can't get over how tight these guys are!
These dudes are all super cool, and on top of getting my LP signed I even got to hold one of the double neck Gibsons!

The end of an era...
It served me well for almost a whole year before being parked for what was supposed to be just a couple weeks of work 2 years ago.
It survived one trip to the farm near Rorketon and one memorable camping trip where we took full advantage of all 6 seats.
There were too many things wrong with this car to list here, and we don't even want to get started on the body rust that made jacking it up a terrifying adventure of it's own.
Despite it's many flaws the one good thing it always had going for it was working AC. Even while the engine would overheat, at least you'd stay cool!
I want to say I'm sad to see it go, but it was far beyond saving. Now it's where it finally belongs, and my parents can stop nagging me to do something with it.

For about the last year or so, one of my friends has been talking about how much he's wanted a cassette Walkman, but it's so hard to find a working one for a reasonable price (seriously, people on kijiji and marketplace are asking $75-100 for these right now!)
When I came across this unit at a flea market for a very reasonable price listed "as is -- not working" I decided to take a gamble on it. One belt later and some minor speed adjustment and now I've got a working Sony player!

Picked up this Akai GX-370D over the weekend! It needs a bit of love, but everything on it is pretty much functional!
"You already have a reel to reel machine, why do you need another one?" you may ask.
Well, the Tascam I fixed up is great, but being a studio-oriented machine it only supports running tapes at 7.5 and 15 IPS. This is fine for studio recording and tracking but problematic when you realize most consumer tapes were recorded for playback at 3 3/4 IPS.
This new machine supports both 3 3/4 and 7 IPS playback, and can do both stereo and mono playback of 4 tracks in both forward and reverse direction! No need to unload your tape onto the take up reel and swap the tape direction anymore!
Also, just look at this machine and tell me it's not super cool to look at! It even has blue & orange colored lights on the play/reverse switches to show what's active!

Mission success!
With a little Windex to clean up the flywheel and a lot of fighting with a stripped screw, I was finally able to get the new belts installed and everything reassembled so this machine can play and record again!
The next step will be to find some blank tapes I can record over to experiment with tracking drums and such with my band

Repair time!
I picked up this Tascam 4 channel reel to reel for cheap a while back because it would rewind and fast forward, but the normal play function didn't work.
Turns out this is a common issue for these machines, as the belt for the capstan motor likes to just disintegrate and turn into a sticky sludge inside the machine!
After some disassembly I was able to get the capstan flywheel out the back and recovered the rest of the melted belt from the bottom of the chassis.
Next step is to clean up the remaining sludge and install a new belt for the capstan motor and tape counter!

Although I was unsuccessful in becoming a diesel mechanic this past weekend, I was successful in:
- Enjoying some fresh raspberries
- Fighting 7 foot nettle plants
- Relaxing on some nice outdoor furniture
- Locating the neighbour's escaped cattle on the road
All in all, a pretty great weekend.
