230,000 migratory birds die from window collisions in NYC every year, including the blackpoll warbler, which travels from North America to South America. Despite flying three days straight, many don’t survive due to window collisions.
This piece reflects on our relationship with non-human animals, focusing on female Neo-tropical blackpoll warblers, immigrants like me who challenge borders. The tags on the dead blackpolls indicate where and when they were found in NYC.

Friends of a Feather
October 7 – November 7, 2024
Reception: October 10, 5–7pm
How can art practices help us reflect on wildlife vulnerability and conservation while shifting our anthropocentrism?
In Friends of a Feather, artist Karolina Rojas explores these themes through digital drawings, taxidermy, and ceramics. Her work reinterprets traditional scientific representation looking into themes of death and conservation. The title plays on the idiom “birds of a feather flock together,” expanding it to explore the kinship between living beings and urging us to re-evaluate our friendship with nonhuman animals.
