Bibliotherapy is a new concept for us at Gorhambury but we love it! What could be better than finding peace and healing through books and Nicole Moody @bibliotherapyforme is the best possible guide. We only have 4 spaces left for our session on 16th July so don’t delay booking. If you don’t manage to book on but love the idea please let us know and we’ll see if we can schedule more.
Huge recently fallen beech tree with very tall Jamie and horse for scale and bluebells flowering at its tail. We find it remarkable how shallow the roots are for these very tall trees causing them to fall with the whisper of a wind.
Very relevant for Mother’s Day! Thank you to all who have booked on to see @lucindagreenacademy and @lissagreen88 a week tomorrow. We have an idea of the structure of the talk and the topics we’d like the Greens to cover and would love you to add your ideas too. Please write questions / topics you’d like discussed on the night in the comments below…. Tickets are still available on the link in the bio.
Thank you so much to @aimee_farrell and @ft_houseandhome for this beautifully written article on @gorhambury & @gorhamburyinteriors . The recognition of the work this remarkable team put into the house is such a boon. Over 50 rooms, worked on by circa 100 trades and craftsmen, 147 sash windows assessed, over 100 items treated for woodworm in a project that lasted 10 years. @aimee_farrell weaves this into an article that all those who worked on Gorhambury will rightly wish to treasure.
🔥Monday, March 23rd 7pm. The last of the Gorhambury Fireside Talks until the autumn and we couldn’t think of a better line up! @lucindagreenacademy and @lissagreen88 will inspire the audience at the start of the eventing season with inter generational experience of the sport. Lucinda and Lissa talks so eloquently about the love of the horse. Catch them at the end during the book signing. The Fireside talks put on @gorhambury have been so different and this is part of the joy. You feel like you are a voyeur in a private conversation tucked up by the fire. Link to buy tickets in the bio.🔥
We are now officially in the 🔥Chinese Year of the Fire Horse🔥 and who better to celebrate this with than 5⭐️ equestrian mother and daughter - Lucinda and Lissa Green in our 23rd March Fireside talk. @lucindagreenacademy@lissagreen88 They both competed and compete at the highest level in the eventing world - combining the ridden disciplines of dressage, showjumping and cross country. Lissa has competed for the UK and Australia. Lucinda is the only person to have won Badminton horse trials six times on six different horses. Lissa and Lucinda ride beautifully, write beautifully and are regarded as some of the most prominent voices in the equestrian world. We look forward to a highly stimulating and interesting evening. This will likely appeal to many young riders in the area and more broadly so please tag your pony club here - starting with @flamsteadbranchpc
One weekend in 2001, while studying European history and Russian at Edinburgh University, @rosiegrimston made her first visit to Gorhambury, for a house party. “It felt like a portal to another world. All of a sudden you’re in this immaculate parkland, and then you walk up the steps to the portico. In this very wonderful, old-fashioned way, the members of the Grimston family were lined up to welcome everybody and shake their hands.”
Now, 25 years later, she’s restoring the estate, which dates from 996—a process which has been anything but easy.
At the link in our bio, @jamesnreginato has more on how Rosie and her newly launched design company @gorhamburyinteriors are bringing the house into the 21st century.
Visiting my childhood home this week and am so proud of my brother for taking on the job of the generation - repairing the roof and stone work. This is forecast to take 10 years and seeing the scaffold going up is very reminding of the work we recently completed at Gorhambury. These architecturally stunning buildings require huge financial commitment and passion to maintain. And yet the process is phenomenally rewarding. Saluting the scaffolders, stonemasons, roofers, joiners and all other craftsmen who will be working @floorscastle If you zoom into the first photo you can just about see the scaffold going up on the North side of the castle, another view from a bedroom window soon to be wrapped in plastic….
“Lone Flower, hemmed in with snows and white as they
But hardier far, once more I see thee bend
Thy forehead, as if fearful to offend,
Like an unbidden guest. Though day by day,
Storms, sallying from the mountain-tops, waylay
The rising sun, and on the plains descend;
Yet art thou welcome, welcome as a friend
Whose zeal outruns his promise! Blue-eyed May
Shall soon behold this border thickly set
With bright jonquils, their odours lavishing
On the soft west-wind and his frolic peers;
Nor will I then thy modest grace forget,
Chaste Snowdrop, venturous harbinger of Spring,
And pensive monitor of fleeting years!“ William Wordsworth
