Borg’s Victory Store – Sliema
Art on reclaimed wood by Gordon Bonello.
Painted on a single salvaged "tavla" from an old bed, this work carries within it the quiet history of those who once rested and dreamt upon it — just as the artist dreams of preserving Malta’s architectural soul. The timber’s worn grain and softened edges become part of the streetscape itself.
Rising above the modest blue storefront, the ornate limestone façade of Borg’s Victory Store remains rooted in Sliema’s streetscape — a reminder that identity is built not only in stone, but in memory, continuity, and care.
"Mela Gej il-Papa ?" (Msida)
Gordon Bonello | Mixed Media on Reclaimed Wood
Gordon Bonello explores the urban soul of Msida, contrasting the timeless endurance of the parish dome with the gritty reality of a closed, graffiti-worn butcher shop. The "perfect" asphalt beneath is a nod to the classic Maltese funny saying— " Mels Gej il-Papa ? " a jab at the frantic roadworks that miraculously precede a visit from the Pope. It is a tribute to the memory of everyday life, held within the grain of the wood and the soul of the stone.
