It was 25 years ago (the Easter long weekend in fact) that I completed a very thorough yoga teacher training program.
From the get-go, my yoga classes were gladly well attended. Using skills honed in my days as a vegan chef and tapping into my study of Ayurveda and holistic nutrition, I enjoyed making superfood concoctions for my clientele. From facials mists to infused oils for facial massage in savasana, sensory healing journeys were always a part of my classes.
One of the pillars of yoga philosophy that inspired me is something called “ahimsa”which for me has inspired me to lead with kindness, something which has since permeated my life.
Often struggling with self limiting beliefs the principle of ahimsa helped me realize that I also ought to be kind with myself.
Fast forward to my life as the founder of GS, one of the thing that bugs me about the skincare industry is that even if you make natural skincare the downside is that the plants your ingredients come from take up a lot of land.
This is a bit of a thorn in my side because it’s not a thoughtful (err, kind) practice for the eco system of the world.
This continually has me wondering how we can do better when we curate ingredients for our formulas at GS.
This has led to me becoming super curious about the role biotechnology can play in ingredient availability so when I finally stumbled upon a bio-designed ingredient known as torula oil from C16 which combines the best of nature, fermentation, and biotechnology, I was over the moon!
Finally, an incredible ingredient with novel skincare benefits made without using land based resources that is derived from the fermentation in the fungal kingdom. It’s my dream ingredient for all that is and all that it’s not.
Not just beautiful and great for your skin, its production is kind to this planet we call home. And that makes me feel very happy, especially in this world of turmoil where our natural resources are more challenged than ever.
