I haven’t played a show since Feb. To be honest, I was thinking about hanging it up. I had played the show at Viper and felt really good about it and that was my original goal. In late 2022, I envisioned playing there. I was 37. I had no idea how I would do it. I didn’t have any music. The goal seemed lofty enough, almost impossible. But getting there was a learning experience. The music industry is dreadful, though music is inspiring. I didn’t know if I had anything else to say, much less through hip-hop where I’ve always felt like an alien. I was tired of being the exception, the outlier, the old dude, the white guy. But @kushypics asked me to play this show and my heart said yes. Ive learned not to question that. So we’re doing this. I’ve got some new songs that thankfully came from tapping a vein this summer.
