Ouroboros, a one-night-only show where cycles are explored in their innumerable ways. Through History, Life, Death, Spirit, Nature, Love and Hate, the Ouroboros symbol has existed since the 14th century and has continued to prove its continuity to this day. Join us in Chippendale for the launch of HEAT 23, the first event in our year of celebrations for 30 years of Australia’s international literary magazine. Ivor Indyk founded HEAT in 1996 to highlight experiment and challenge and stave off ‘noise…rubbish, and imposture’, and thirty years on we are persisting with this mission. Taking the mic from around 6.15pm to read with grace and panache will be Chris Fleming, Coco X. Huang, Fiona Wright, Eila Vinwynn, Zhao Xingyu and Amaryllis Gacioppo. Surrounding them, in the cozy upper boughs of Goodspace Gallery, we’ll have the walls filled with a commemorative exhibition of archival writing, artwork, ephemera and curios gathered over HEAT’s long history. With the Gladdy now proudly operating as a pokie-free pub, we’ve taken the opportunity to reset a few things across our visual arts programming to help keep these amazing events sustainable for our incredible independent venue. Goodspace exhibitions will now run fortnightly, allowing us to put more energy into each show with stronger curator support, better co-pro and proper online archiving. Each exhibition will include a complimentary case of Young Henrys Natural Lager and amazing catering options from The Lord Gladstone Hotel. At Drawing Club we’re retiring the complimentary cans and increasing the frequency of Young Henrys Sketch of the Week. This puts the spotlight on your work on the feed and gives you the chance to win a Young Henrys tee-shirt and tasting bar voucher every single class, just by sharing your drawing. These changes strengthen what already works across our pub, gallery and drawing studio and will keep both these incredible events available to the community long into the future.
