Before Antero Alli passed and right before AI became everyone’s least favorite hot topic, he would return to his “cyberfi” narratives with BLUE FIRE. Previously screened in 2023 with a virtual Q&A with Alli himself, we’re proud to bring back his final film into an official program. A bizarro techno-fable on the Singularity, salvia, the Divine Transfeminine, and even the Egyptian God Anubis. As we continue to unlock the secrets left behind by Alli, we’re ecstatic to bring back actor Douglas Allen in a virtual Q&A to provide further insight.

Spectacle is thrilled to once again work with local documentary filmmaker Curtis Whitear and the rest of the Childhood Delusion Film Festival crew to bring you one of the more obscure horror anthology series this SPECTOBER. A duology wildly relevant to both parties involved and the first foray in filmmaking for New York City’s very own “Horror Himbo” Joe Zaso— evoking another Spectacle Classic HAWK JONES, SCREAMBOOK and SCREAMBOOK II: THE NEXT ISSUE are a brazingly playful send-up to the Tales of the Crypt adjacent stories of our youth with the starkly appropriate difference of being shot and acted predominantly by kids. Do you dare give in to your childhood delusions and open the SCREAMBOOK?

Joe Zaso’s directorial debut at the age of 14, SCREAMBOOK is SOV horror meets high school public access TV experiment. Modeled after anthology movies like CREEPSHOW, we’re treated to five spooky stories— “Family Reunion”, “Tommy”. “Secret of the Bottle”, “Ye Old Toy Shop” and “Worms”, all lovingly introduced with construction paper and crude marker-drawn comic covers, match cutting into the live action. Silly, glitchy and charmingly creative, SCREAMBOOK is an essential Long Island horror movie history as well as a future textbook canon example of young auteurs making art by any means necessary.

#beyondtheblackrainbow is an endlessly inspiring film to me. All vibes and menace originally scored by Sinoia Caves this film compelled me to purchase my first synth .
@panoscosmatos wields a unique skill in that his films feel as though they are unearthed artifacts from a past that never really existed, a world where a life changing movie sits under the shelf of a closed video store waiting to be picked up and rediscovered.
I often return to #andreitarkovsky and #stalker1979 . It moves like a poem woven around the original vision of the #strugatskybrothers and #roadsidepicnic . From the original score of #eduardartemiev to the masterful acting and visual language used throughout. I find it to be a deeply peaceful film, one that may not bring happiness or laughs but brings a long quiet reflection.
Filled with philosophy and poetry it is a challenging but incredibly satisfying watch. A science fiction film unlike anything else under the banner.
