Movie and TV selects for May are up! Normally, May is stacked with big theatrical releases, but this time things feel a touch quieter, even with a STAR WARS movie due out. What are you excited to watch this month?
One of TV’s best shows is back and better than ever. Here are my thoughts on @industryhbo season four in under a minute. You don’t want to miss the one.
Fit Check #26! We’re halfway to a full year of going these, so had to break out some bangers this week with a wide variety of looks. Thanks for following along this far; the response is great. Here’s to 26 more.
I was half awake when I got out of the car. It was one of those Sunday mornings when getting out of bed was more of a struggle than it would be otherwise. As I rubbed my eyes, still adjusting to the light, I cut off a man walking his dog. The man calmly told me that if I kicked his dog, he’d beat me up. I told him I hadn’t intended to do that at all and was just trying to hurry forward, and he repeated himself. It was certainly an abrasive way to start the morning.
When I rounded the corner and recounted this story to those waiting to start the run, Gabo’s immediate response was something to the effect of, “Where is he?” When I told him the man had already walked away, Gabo said that people shouldn’t be allowed to conduct themselves in that way and that if he was looking to fight me, he’d get a lot more than he’d bargained for. I know my friends have my back, but the absolute lack of hesitation in Gabo’s voice spoke volumes about how far he’d go for his friends.
When Gabo told me that he was going to become a captain for Cafécito, I was so proud of him because I knew he had it in him. I guess in so many ways it’s beyond fitting that the last time I saw him was last Saturday, when he was leading Cafécito on a run. He was so present with the group that he didn’t hear me shout for him. I’ve never been so happy in life to be ignored as I was during that moment, watching him continue to blossom and lead.
I remember Gabo once mentioned that the reason he always tried to be so joyous came from losses he’d experienced throughout his life. It instantly unlocked his personality to me. It felt like the big, broad, and boisterous behavior he brought to every space he entered was, in some regard, because he was trying to live life not only for himself but also for those he had lost along the way. Our lives were so much richer because of the love and light he brought.
Rest easy, Gabo. We’ll miss you so much. If you have the means to support Gabe’s family, please visit the GoFundMe link in my bio.
I very much enjoyed — as much as one can with material this heavy and dark — BABY REINDEER creator Richard Gadd’s new HBO series HALF MAN, which offers quite the look at masculinity. Full review at the link in my bio if you want to read more!
Fit Check #22: Weird weather this week called for lots of shorts combinations but things cool down over the weekend meant I could break out a layer or two. Bonus running fit!
