HANG IN THERE, GOOD CAT 💞 THE POSTER THAT EVERYONE NEEDS
Who doesn't like a motivational poster? Who doesn't need to be reminded to HANG IN THERE (especially these days?)
Did you, like me, always feel kind of bad for that little kitten hanging from a branch in the original poster from the 70s? I would look at that poster and think "Did they have a safety net? How long did you let him hang there to get the shot? Was the kitten scared? WHO WOULD DO THIS TO A KITTEN?"
So, since it is 2026, we've evolved the image and the message. This little tiger tabby has very kind, supportive hands protecting her. We want this image to be both motivational and calming. It should be a reminder to "hang in there" but also that we're all in this together. And that it's important to lend a helping hand to others (especially kittens,) too.
Photo was taken in a backyard in Makawao town, in upcountry Maui, Hawaiʻi, in an orange tree. Kitten safety supervised by many "cat ladies" (including the photographer.)

HEY GOOD CATS! 😻 HAPPY TWENTY-TWENTY-SIX!
First of all, how is it 2026? 2025 was a good, fast, fulfilling and productive blur. Starting in April, were able to provide free spay and neuter for cats to the Maui community. WOW, what a project! We spayed or neutered 1032 cats! Our Operation Aloha Cat transfer program has now flown over 1210 cats to their new, loving homes. We received a 50K grant to continue our OAC program in 2026 (we will share details about this exciting news soon!) We had three direct adoptions last year, two more that'll probably turn into adoptions this month. How is all of this possible? Well, the partnerships, the collaborations, the UNBELIEVABLE support and dedication from our community through volunteerism and financial support.
We are going be sharing all the juicy details with you in the coming weeks - you'll hear about all the magic that happened in 2025, plus our new programs, grants, goals, partners and all the good news we have to share for 2026.
LET'S DO THIS MAUI! 🤙🌺 WE LOVE YOU!

The HAPPIEST of BIRTHDAYS to Good Cat Network's Executive Director Jennie Ben-Dayan! 🩷She is our super-hero of all super-heroes, wearer of many hats, and one of the strongest, and most compassionate people we've ever met.
The past several months have been a little bit challenging to say the least: from navigating the management transition at Good Cat, the wild changes in our programs, staffing and financial resources to dealing the personal, family and health stuff that comes up in all of our lives and just, well, all the crap happening in the world.
Speaking of that - for many of you, it might be the first you're hearing that Jennie is our Executive Director! Well, Jennie came on board a few months ago, leaving Honi Honi Cats Maui, in which she is the founder, to her daughter Emily. Note that Honi Honi is still VERY MUCH Good Cat's partner in Operation Aloha Cat - in Honor of Louise H. Neuhoff. Honi Honi and Good Cat programs also work in concert with Surf Cat, where Jennie has another role: managing the volunteers and assisting in operations there. (In short, we're all working together.)
And so yeah, this woman has like a STACK of hats on right now 👒🎩🎓👒🎩 and WE ARE SO HAPPY SHE WAS BORN AND IS ON THE GOOD CAT TEAM!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JENNIE! Hope your day is filled with cat purrs and head butts 🐈⬛🤍🐈⬛
As a birthday fundraiser, we are releasing Good Cat Network's take on the Hang in There poster: Just like the 70s version, there's a kitten courageously hanging from a tree branch, reminding you to hang in there when things get tough. Unlike the 70s version, this kitten is supported by loving hands. Jennie's hands, actually 🤍
We hope that our update to the poster provides a sense of calm, support AND motivation: not only that YOU have support from organizations like Good Cat Network, but a reminder offer support to those in need.
This photo was taken in 2023 by the talented Madelynne Lorraine Photography when she volunteered her time to help Good Cat Network and Honi Honi Cats Maui photographically commemorate our partnership in the Operation Aloha Cat program, and not released til now!

🩷IT IS MY BIRTHDAY.🩷 It's a little awkward when you run the social media account and you have to make posts about yourself but you know what? I am feeling less and less awkward about it. I have decided that being 43 means no shame. The non-profit I founded needs money and birthdays tend to be a good day to ask for donations, so here I go.
FUN FACT: the first article of clothing I ever wore was a cat shirt. Yep. The hospital I was born at was celebrating their 25th anniversary and to commemorate it, put all the newborns in a shirt with the hospital name and an illustration of a momma cat grooming her kitten. Plus a ball of yarn.
So, my husband took that shirt design and good cat network'ed it.
Want to dress as newborn me for whatever weird reason? Or do you just like the cute 80s illustration that I am assuming was some sort of clip-art chosen out of a catalog by some Brentwood Hospital exec sitting in a board room the same way you'd choose your latex balloon image at the drug store when buying balloons for a birthday party?
Please buy the shirt! All proceeds from the Good Cat Store go to us:

Don't want to dress as newborn me?
That's cool - there's lots of other stuff to buy to support us in our store!
Don't want stuff and just want to donate? HEY! I 🩷 that for you:
DONATION LINK ALSO IN BIO Signed: the no shame, funyuns, taco bell and labyrinth with David Bowie loving, forever-winged-eyeliner elder millennial who didn't take the bandage off her nose for the photo because she had a recent biopsy and it can be a reminder to all of you to get your skin checked and WEAR SUNSCREEN aka Darlene🩷

HAPPY EARTH DAY // REMEMBER: EVERY LITTLE ACT OF KINDNESS MAKES A DIFFERENCE 🌎🌺😺
So, we know we're not saving the world with flying cats to the continent or providing spay and neuter services...but we know that we are making a difference in our the cats we help, the people that care for them and the fragile Maui ecosystem that we call home.
We've flown over a 1000 cats off island and provided over 1000 spay and neuter surgeries...and I am sure there's a calculator out there to tell you how many cats that would end up being now, but all that matters is WE know we're making a difference. We are doing our part - and encourage you to do your part, too!
Volunteer wherever your heart is. Be kind to all beings. Be grateful for this beautiful world and do your best to preserve it. We're all in this together.

🐾 Community Spotlight: Voices from the Clinic 🐾
This weekend wasn’t just about numbers - it was about people, connection, and the love we all share for our animals 💛
109 dogs spayed & neutered
🐶 Day One: 53 dogs
🐶 Day Two: 56 dogs
We asked some of our amazing community members what this clinic meant to them… and this is what they had to say 🐾
From gratitude and relief, to stories of accessibility and support - these moments remind us why we do this.
Because when a community shows up like this, real change happens.
A huge mahalo to our incredible partners and supporters who made this possible: PetFix, JRP, Good Cat Network, and Maui Humane Society - we couldn’t have done this without you.
And of course, mahalo to every single person who trusted us with their pets and shared their stories with us 🐶🐾💕
Today was something really special 💕🐾
We hosted our very first dog clinic and… wow. We’re still taking it all in. Together, we successfully spayed & neutered 53 dogs in just one day alone. 53 lives impacted, 53 steps toward a healthier, more compassionate community.
And we’re not done yet… this was only day one - we’re heading right back tomorrow for day two 💪🏼🐶
This would not have been possible without the incredible hands and hearts behind it 💗
A huge mahalo to PetFix Spay & Neuter for partnering with us and bringing your expertise to Maui - we are so grateful for you.
Mahalo to JRP for your support in making this clinic happen, and to Good Cat Network for your contribution and continued dedication to helping animals in our community.
And a special thank you to Maui Humane Society for your generous crate donations and continued support of our mission.
To every volunteer, every helping hand, every person who showed up with love for these animals… this is what community looks like 🐶✨🌺
