JUNE 06 - 10:00 am
OCLB/SD – Mt. Baldy via Ski Lift and Devil's Backbone Trail
-----------------------------------------------
Location: 8401 Mt. Baldy Road Mt. Baldy, CA 91759
Time: 10:00 am to 03:00 pm
-----------------------------------------------
This is a MODERATELY STRENUOUS hike
Approx. 6.6 miles / 2,362' elevation gain
Mt. Baldy (its official name is Mount San Antonio) and I go way back. Growing up in the San Gabriel Valley, I could see it from home, assuming it wasn’t “smogged in.”
It is a massive rock, rising 10,064’ above sea level. It is the highest peak in Los Angeles County and the third-highest in Southern California. By some estimates, it’s the seventh-most-climbed mountain in the world.
Most importantly, it is my favorite hike in the LA area.

May's mixer was informative. Richard Norman summarized our compelling upcoming OCLB events with an emphasis on our upcoming corporate Jamboree.
Richard also stressed that we are in dire need of more event leaders for leading walks, hikes, and trips. Frederick announced that our membership total has increased to 152 members.
Robert unveiled two versions of new banners to be used by trip leaders. Richard took one and Lance kept one to use on his next trip to Yosemite. Be sure to keep an eye out for it in upcoming group hike photos.
We look forward to seeing you at our next monthly mixer.

Today's hike is an urban walk from Keauhou Bay to Hulihe'e Palace, located in the historic center of Kailua Kona, along scenic Ali'i Drive.
The walk is 5.6 miles one way, mostly flat, with gentle elevation changes due to the uneven coastline. Ali'i Drive is a waterfront thoroughfare in Kailua Kona. It is popular among tourists and frequented by fit joggers and cyclists.
It was great admiring the homes, beaches, and parks lining Ali'i Drive. It took about two hours one way to reach Hulihe'e Palace, a former royal residence, and Moku'aikaua Church, the oldest Christian church in Hawaii.
After visiting these two historic sites, it was time to buy a smoothie and walk back to Keauhou Bay. Altogether, this was an enjoyable 11-mile walk.

OCLB - Atlantis Cruise to Mexico April 2026
Over 20 GO members just returned from an 8-day adventure with Atlantis Events on Virgin’s “Brilliant Lady.” The itinerary included Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta! Shore excursions included wine tasting, riding ATVs, zip lining, walking tours and taco tastings. Onboard there was comedy, drag bingo, hot tubing, themed dance parties, Cirque-type shows, group dinner and even a wee bit of drinking! There was truly something for everyone!

CORP - Outdoor Experience Training in Joshua Tree
4-10-26 to 4-12-26
Another fantastic training program for both current and new trip and hike leaders! This three day program gives participants all of the tools necessary to be an outstanding Great Outdoors leader. Please consider joining us for the next training in February 2027 at centrally located O’Neill Park in Orange County. Huge thanks to all of the trainers and especially Beth Schneider for all of her hard work!

Urban Walk Inglewood
4/12/26
Six people signed up for this Urban walk. With the rain forecast an email was sent out yesterday warning that the event might be canceled, but to check this morning for another email with a final decision. The decision was that we would do the walk. One person canceled and four did not show up. It turned out to be a beautiful partly cloudy day. The park was interesting and historic and we toured the old market Street which was the center of Old Inglewood. The two of us had a wonderful time.
OCLB - DAY HIKE TO WORKMAN HILL IN THE PUENTE HILLS
4-4-26
It was a beautiful day for a hike! Great visibility, warm weather, a gentle breeze and a fantastic group of hikers! After our 4.3 mile hike we had a fun lunch at Rodeo 72 (a cool food court) in Whittier.

Our outreach at Long Beach’s TDOV Resource Fair was a huge success! 🌈 We had a wonderful time connecting with so many outdoor enthusiasts who were excited to see us there. The two-legged and the four-legged of variety.
We’re hopeful that the new connections we made will inspire more members to join our outdoor community!
